rather than thinking too hard when i posted my rfirst comment, it seems i wasnt really thinking at all - the three elements together do make sense now but i didnt register the globe as a cage at all when i first looked at it.
Also despite the non traditional 'hippy' style the idea does work for a 'hippy' band. Less flash commenting from me from now on.
Perhaps since 2 years I don't put a message on this forum, just to tell that:this is a strong, sad, true image.
The way too that the circle is not in the center makes think that we're loosing now,a thing that will never appears again.
"and i would argue the idea that we do posters for "emo" bands but that we should save for a whole nother day."
well... this whole poster speaks to in the following way : do NOT go to this show because the music will suck
not saying your poster sucks (though personally I have seen much better stuff from you guys)... I just equate this with shit music
I am brainwashed
"galactic too. maybe they are getting sick of frat boy hippy fans?"
I don't think it's possible to be both a hippie and a frat boy simultaneously. Frat boys beat up hippies.
i understand what your saying, but check their site. Their art director has made a conscious effort to depart from that style whether good or bad.
and i would argue the idea that we do posters for "emo" bands but that we should save for a whole nother day.
huh... i find it surprising that a band would want to have such a diverse style of posters
but I stand corrected... if they want it they are correct
i can't blame them for trying to get out of the hippy band imagery... just thought that it would make more sense to have a much more focused image rather than this hotch potch of various things.
and yes... any band that pays its designers is cool
Dave Matthews, Trey Anastasio, Yonder Mountain and Widespread all have consciously moved away from "jam band" imagery. they all approached a bunch of us GP designers and asked for designery style and not hippy. Us, Heads of State, Farm Barn , Methane...
been happening the last two years at least. What's not to get?
I still don't fucking get it...
itlooks like some shitty emo band to me... not a hippy style jam band scene group
and looking at all their other posters... they are all over the damn place...
time for some serious art direction and C&D letters if I were that band
we did a few posters for this tour. the band wanted us to approach them with more of a socially conscious leen to them.
This was just kind of a commentary on the state of the world today. Dont think too hard.
Piemel - i dont get it either. It looks great as a poster but i sort of feel i'm being tricked into believing it has a strong concept behind it with the use of strong iconography - blood as tear, peace dove, globe. Strong stuff, but i dont get the connections. That said, i know little about the band. Dusty, care to spell it out?
