The orange added to the urgency of the concept, even though it was really close to the bellrays poster amy jo did (which is in my room so i see it every day)... the sans seriff type was already part of the ad so I added some Franklin Gothic or something with some Trade Gothic down at the bottom. Really different feel from my other recent work. I thought if anything this was a Chantry thing... yep.
And the composition of this came right from Knight Magazine — I kinda took a subscription ad and changed the type up so it would apply to a show. I played with some other designs for a while that fit more with the Traindodge music, but ran out of time and couldn't pull the post-punk thing together. SO this was the solution... plus it kinda provided a narrative — ie these people could actually be on a train? Running away from Johnny Law or something. He has shotgun bullets in his mouth....
Amy Jo's work is better than ever (i know you've been following her on myspace)... But she just isn't into the gigposters.com thing right now. She is super busy and doing lots of merch too. I keep waiting for her to add her new posters but I think she just has other stuff to do. Check her myspace if you want to see her new work — some really great stuff through the end of 2006...
