A quick google search disagrees with your numbers, coasty.
"Selected Statistics on Slavery in the United States
(unless otherwise noted, all data is as of the 1860 census)
Total number of slaves in the Lower South : 2,312,352 (47% of total population).
Total number of slaves in the Upper South: 1,208758 (29% of total population).
Total number of slaves in the Border States: 432,586 (13% of total population).
Almost one-third of all Southern families owned slaves. In Mississippi and South Carolina it approached one half."
Union soldiers to outnumbered Confederate soldier: "You can't win, why are you fighting us?"
Conferderate soldier: "Because you're HERE."
About 90% of the 1860-era Southern population did not own slaves. What, did you think there were 50 million slaves in the country then?
actually, the war really fucked up the situation for southern blacks. after the south lost, whites associated free blacks with the humiliation of losing the war and being occupied. they made life EXTRA hard on black people cause freeing slaves was FORCED on them by the Norh.
true, slavery wasnt the only issue. states rights was a big difference in the southern & northern mindsets. although Lincoln later appears to have really cared more about the slavery issue. at least on record. anyway, the South would've abolished slavery on its own within a decade or so.
Anyone who thinks Lincoln freed the slaves because he was a great guy and not because he wanted to fuck the South's economy up is a fucking retard. Lincoln didn't give a shit. The majority of the North didn't give a shit. Economics. Punishment. Hit them where it hurts.
A rebel flag isn't always negative. There is a great deal of pride in the south over that flag. Not every southerner is a racist, and that isn't by any means what THIS flag symbolizes.
ASG is a punk/alternative band from NC (southern state). Nice Concept/Cool Poster....
Did you ever notice the rebel flag is never realy used in conjunction with anything all too forward thinking, like a blood drive or a toy drive for children?
Down here in Slowvannah, I saw a bumper sticker with a rebel flag on it that read 'Fighting terrorism since 1864'.
