I don't like Sebadoh, but Rodan was pretty fucking special. I tried pulling one of these off the window the night before the show, real sneaky like. I totally got caught, and was made to feel really bad. They did not yell at me, or anything they just made me feel like I was hurting the scene.

my favorite element is the shadow under Boo Boo..it makes it look...'creepy' remove that shadow it wouldnt work the same.

hm...well...let's see. i was in aperiod of Dore obsession and...Sebedoh struck me as band that was very much about dissapointment and loss. I was also going through a 'cartoons as archetypes' deal..wherein Boo Boo is sort of like Judas, as he kinda pussies out when Yogi fucks up..sp like..the triad of Ranger Smith, Yogi and Boo Boo is akin to Jesus, Judas and whatsisface Roman Governer...uh..you knowPilate? Pontius Pilate? anyway...the deed is done, Jesus nailed to the cross for our sins..our need to be free of the yoke..and Boo Boo survives..but has blood on his hands, or is it a stigmata because now he is doomed to relive the betrayal endlessly and through pain comes redemption...set at night cause you know...He died at night, alone...like we all do, symbolically...I did it a la Dore to make it more 'serious and morbid' rather than goofy and anti-Jesus..this dore treatment made it seem more pro=jesus and starnge, as we do not commonly think of jesus in night time settings..most prtrayals are daytime.
it was also a juxtaposition of images not seen by me befor..I do not think anyone ever had a Boo Boo jesus Dore vibe before.
I have no idea wat the band ever thought of it, but a lot of people have responded to this over the last 13 years, so it has doi=ne it's 'job' as a poster on top of everything else.
it took FOREVER to draw all the little lines.

Kozik- if you were to judge this yourself,how would you rate yourself on intention versus execution. I ask this because it seems like a much more 'subtle' treatment than what i know of your work. I like the idea (what I see of it, please elaborate if you see fit)- of the DEADLY SERIOUS 'don't fuck with the crucifixion' with the saturday morning cartoon brainwashing, but it doesn't turn me on like a lot of your stuff does. This could be just my personal taste, and I know I'm new around here (forgive me), but I'd really like to know more of your approach to this poster, the Dore relevance and how you feel about it now. If I'm missing something I really want to know about it. thanks.

I always get an uneasy feeling when I look at this one and I don't know why. Perhaps my strict Roman Catholic upbringing (which I have since rejected) I was an altarboy (Untouched, to answer the inevitable wise cracks)...the whole nine yards. It goes to show you how badly organized religion screws with your head. I still get queasy when I see this type of art. Don't get me wrong I love it, but I was gonna buy one of these off of ebay amd bailed because I figured I'd never hang it up. Quite an accomplishment for a poster I'd say.

Ok..on a serious level. this is a poster which i spent a LOT of time 'designing'...theres a concept, a vibe to the art, a juxtaposition between the style and content and I tried to lay it out decently. I also spent about 20 hours drawing the fucking thing.
is it 'design' is it 'art'?
