That was exactly my question. I've been looking at alot of the text in the psychidelic posters done for the Filmore and recently tried to replicate some on a Big Head Todd poster and it looks like complete crap.
This on the other hand kicks some serious ass.
Computer font, hand enhanced. Font was based on a Chicano grafitti font Griffin was fond of and used. I found it on the net awhile back and saved it for something special.
I always wanted to do a new take on a traditional old school theme so when the Widespread job came up I asked Jeral Tidwell to do me a neo-traditional take on the flying eyeball...very organic and based on tho band's Georgia roots, thus the magnolia blossom. I colorized the piece based on Jeral's concept and then used the font to manually build all the text, it worked out really well and I was very pleased with the end result.
It was printed in 8 colors and the gold is faux gold leaf. A trick we have for doing a really cool effect. WP's people loved them and we expect them to do very well for the WP Merch people at the show. It was a 1000 pc run S/N.
My hand is still numb...
