Speed is the one you wish you were lil fella, the earthshaker, the bone breaker, the one and only postermaker, the cerebral assasin, the jackassin rym somethin or another that rhymes with jackassin, now seriously, who's ed fella, I'm not bein a jerk, does my stuff resemble his?
Soooo Chuck Jones on Peyote, first Kozik I saw and made me want to form a band, just so I could rip off Kozik and make a poster for said band! Fawking brilliance
I'm also leaving out the tens of thousands of offset posters. Dude, we did a lot of posters.
Now I'm just doing 1 silkscreen and 2 offsets a month.
I'm retired.
All I can say is I was INTOXICATED by the whole deal for a long time.
LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. still do.
Well I ask you again...were you insane??? hahahahaha.
I will never whinge again over a run of 200 again.. although I still only do runs of 60 - 100... Khuns stuff was that low... I figure, keep em so rare they wont all end up under my bed. hahahahaa
in the last 10 years there have been
over 400 silkscreen posters, average run 600 average 6 colors
so:about 1.5 million poster impressions
and maybe 50 single and 10 covers
same deal..so like a total of maybe
another 200,00 impressions there..it adds up fast. @ printers going full time for 10 years. on a good day we could pull 2000-3000 impressions.
Gadzooks!
Frank... man were you insane??? You did like 6 - 10 colour prints on huge fucking runs... All mine are done by myself.. I have acess to a one arm bandit, machine, I register myself paper n ink etc, and pull myself...hahahaha Which is why my runs are small, I get bored , and well.. the number you did would scare the shit outta me!
yes that is how the press works. you need 2 people to run it, one to load paper and watch the ink and a second to pull and make adjustments to the screen. The current machine (it's over at Firehouse Studios now) cost about 8000 dollar US, and after we did AT LEAST 1 Million impressions on it it still works perfectly. One amazing machine.
it's 22.5 inches by 35 inches in size as well.
hand cut seps. The drawing was 50%
of the final size before I scanned and enlarged it.
I especially enjoyed drawing kitties splayed toes...don't know why.
This club only can hold 130 people or so and that's cutting it pretty tight.
My cherished scenario..tiny show-big poster.
Kozik,
Sorry if I sound stupid... but a one colour automatic press... is that like, you set up registration and the machine pulls the ink, then when that one colour is done, you set up the second screen, and repeat till done?
What I wanna know is ... was this hand pulled or machine??
I remember freaking over Emek stuff... his prodigy, 11 screen.. utter madness, but I think that was machine. Hand seps probably, but printing... hmmm
this is sick..horrible...and demented.... why the fuck cant I find one of these...??? Id love one.
