oh man, this is awesome. it's like one of those old beatles album covers where every little detail means something and you can pore over it for hours trying to figure it out. and yes i can see why b&s annoy the fuck out of some people, but 'life pursuit' was just a terrific album
Great detailed poster and a great approach...However, I'm gonna hang myself and say this band fucking SUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKSSS! I wish more people would put some thought into a band such as, say, Motorhead...
wow. i didn't expect this kind of response. here's a run down from the top. left to right.
the angels over the windows are there because the band lived above a church for a while and recorded "if you're feeling sinister" there.
the first window has my cat moxie. the second has richard cooking dinner cause he can only eat certain things. the ornament on the right is taken from a design of two kids dancing from some belle merch. there are ten trees on the molding because the band has been around for ten years. mick is practicing the horn. sarah is looking down at the mom and girl who are looking at "all the dummies in the windows" there is a fox for fox in the snow next to the tour 2006 sign.
now for the street. left to right. bobby's on the bus looking for a good time. you see a travel ad in reference to "you made me forget my dreams" there is a horse next to that for "judy and the dream of horses" yes the dates are on the awning. it's the only place where they would fit, and wouldn't be distracting. there is the frog from the shirt the waitress is wearing from "dear catastrophe waitress" and a quote from "acts of the apostle on the side of the bus. on the side walk. first you have sebastian and his dog belle where the band got their name from behind him is the major from "me and the major" then there is chris on his way to a football game. behind the bust stop sign you have my friend james who opened at the belle and sebastian afterparty in 2003. that's where i met the band. next to him you see stevie who is looking at the "wrong girl". on his guitar case you see a rolling stones sticker because he's a big stones fan. the wrong girls are my friends caitlin kuhwald and daya kuhner, the indie girl queens in college.
in the cafe it's hard to tell but. you see my ex and me. i loved her and was trying to win her back. then in the other table you see stuart david and isobel campbell. behind them on the wall you see the first three record covers but they are very tiny on screen. the mom and daughter are looking at the dummies in the window a reference to a song written by stuart and sung by isobel called women's realm. there a picture of bob dylan on the dress for "dylan in the movies" but it is also the outfit worn by isobel when i saw the band in san francisco in 2001. the other mannequin has her outfit from the "i'm waking up to us" ep. this all is relevant because of the line "we lost a singer to her clothes" in "i'm a cuckoo" now. mr. murdoch is on the bus bench, because he decided to take the next one as he sits with his "dog on wheels" and a comic (who's cover is the poster but very tiny) and a tape player with the original cassette of tigermilk.
