Morphine was incredible. Mark Sandman was 47 when he collapsed and died of a heart attack on that concert stage in Italy. The surviving members, saxophonist Dana Colley and drummer Billy Conway, went on to form Twinemen with singer/guitarist Laurie Sargent. Check out twinemen.com for more information.
one of my favorite koziks.. i can always appreciate a lovecraft reference.
"Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn. (In his house at R'lyeh dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.)"
I so wish the posters for Morphine had been like this when they came to town. Really like this poster and the Lovecraft bit. (his prose was a bit too purple for my taste though)
okay okay,i need to read more! :-p dieing on stage isn't really the best way to go, or is it? i remember watching tommy cooper drop dead on stage years ago on tv,nobody knew what had happened until the next day when it was in the paper.
Thanks for the tip,i'm gonna check out some lovecraft (baby!)a friend of mine has all sorts of books like that, crowley etc. i thought cthulhu was gobbledeygook, you learn something everyday don't you! thanks for that. :-)
Harry, shame on you. Thats not garbled english the ol' girl is muttering...
Go straight to your nearest library and beg the librarian to show you where the HP Lovecraft stuff is.
Read some of it and when you understand who CTHULU is, THEN look at this poster. Youll see it in a whole new way.
Really tripped-out implications...'supersex' and all that.
Yeah-Sandman dropped dead on stage in Italy-heart attack at age 39 (I think)...Cthulhu is one of the Old Ones, Gods from Outside....we are the descendents/byproducts of their worshippers slave-beasts.....You should read some Lovecraft, he's pretty great for a racist xenophobe who couldn't regulate his own body temperature.
yea,i knew morphine were a band.they were cool.didn't know one of them had died though, thats unfortunate. the piece of octopus and the lady's garbled speech just reminded me of naked lunch, the lizards etc.even if this wasn't the intention you've still managed to create an image that is very "druggy" (for want of a better word!) good job. :-D
i don't think this poster is screen printed is it frank? mrs peel, look a little closer, thats 300line screen offset using water based inks, only the finest printers can offer.
no....Morphine is/was a band.Mark Sandman died tho, yet I believe they still play as the 'Morphine Orchestra'....this poster is all about the Lovecraft Mythos, as the band came from that part of New England where the Old Ones still maintain a few portals. Shob Yaggoth y'all.
Great stuff,is the woman supposed to be on morphine then?reminds me of naked lunch, a book i read whilst tripping on acid without realising it was working!a unique experience, hmm.
