and while I'm on defensive mode here... why the hell hasn't my series of posters for another local band, Crud, garnerd this much contempt for displaying the female form? Mmm? Go look... I'll wait...
Is it because the female depicted is a band-member? Is it because at times she's displayed strong as well as sexual? is THAT the only differecne between two objectifying sets of imagery?
Pardon my piss-poor typing. I just woke up. Ha ha. Oh, and who says bad publicity's always a bad thing? Look at the fantastic discussion about music and art this has wrought? I think that if this poster has sparked this sort of discussion, its done its job. Better than "that's sweet". Don't get me wrong, i like good kudos, too. But nothing beats a good, heated discussion on art and music.
actuallt, this (along with the Mick Collins and Koffin Kats posters) were commemoritive posters for the JamRag/MAE Music event on June second. They were sold AT the show representing some of the bands (many) that played that night. As far as not representing the band, i find that statement to be utter tripe. I've seen them. Many times. They have women (as dancers and as bass players) in the band. They use their sexuality as part of the band's image. Females DO indeed show up to watch the band live. MANY in fact. Most the fans aren't uncomfortable with explored and desplayed sexuality. So they embrace it and enjoy it for what it it: fun, dirty industrial rock-n-roll. Nothing more, nothing less. Not everything has to have a deep message and try to change the damn world. Sometimes it's perfectly fine to just have a good time.
After a quick visit to Haf Life's website, I've discovered that...according to their live show pics, Haf Life uses/endorses sexual imagery in their shows.
So, this type of poster would attract the type of crowd that would go to that show and enjoy it.
Its a cheap concept. Are you selling a woman's body or music? You guys will never learn, this is NOT good design. Its weak. If the designer had something really creative to say about the band or music the design would be much more sophisticated.
Wow. Well, see.. as cool as Death Pussy would be (I'm so Bogarting that by the way), people that know the band also know of the misogynistic undertones to the sleazy industrial rock. Thats why th "poison" skull-n-crossbones is there over the good stuff.
well, i guess the next time i want a filet mignon i'll hack off my breast and fry 'er up then. WHO'S HUNGRY??? :eyeroll:
this poster is simple and clean, but i wish the band's name was Death Pussy, the skull and cross bones would make more sense. the half life radioactivity/poison hot chick thing, eh. stupid Judeo-Christian lies.
