Randomized. Never seen it or heard of the band, but I can visualize the ex-members sitting in their garages/basements staring at this print wondering what the fuck went wrong.
they where a sort of 'jam band' that Columbia was convinced was gonna be the next Phish. they spent a fortune on promotion.
no one bought the record.
I billed them about 17,000 grand total for design and a silkscreen run.
this was a huge silkscreen...28 x 40 or so
maybe 18 colors.
I've heard theyre better than most, kind of steady as record companys go. Again this is madness, I't would scramble my brain to try and figure out the process.
I want one give me one I must have one. Never mind, you're gonna say the E-word.
Damn. Seriously good shit. The stained glass radial background really ties it all together. I need to somehow bookmark this fucker so I can look at it on demand.
I also did it asa photoshop file for offsett posters. this is it. the silkcreen has like solid shading on the fress and hair..looks better actually.the silkscreen was 28 x 38 no way to scan it or watever. this is a shrunk version of the offset file.
Well, if you put that much into something, you can only hope it looks this good in the end.
Fucking great job! 26 colors!!!!!?????? Screen printers across the world just engaged in a collective cringe.
all done by hand. used a photo of a girl for reference. it took forever. cutting the seps was a bitch. 26 colors.
good thing they paid me like 10 grand.
Why don't ya'll take this discussion over to the forum 'Valid Gig Posters - Clean-up'. That's why Clay posted it.
And why was PM singled out? Many people responded in same! And nobody whined!
And no...life isn't always fair, but it's definitely best when it is!
OK, I tried to find the original post I made, but it appears as if Clay has pulled it.. I think I said that either they all should be allowed or they all should be pulled. Clay asked, I gave an OPINION, as did several other people. Nothing whiney, just matter of fact.
:-)
my aesthetic subnorm, more properly...I am technically pathetic, so I've tried to paper it over with razzle-dazzle crap...maybe in 20 more years I'll be able to draw like I want to..
By the way, Frank - NICE PIECE...I am very glad I got to view this in relationship to your greater body of poster work so as to enjoy its escape from your aesthetic norm.
PM - ever hear about life? It isn't always fair...If the work gets up...why pullit? Its art work, we see it, we share thoughts. Good, yes? If we whine about - well they let them and not me, boo hoo - who does and doesn't get their work up...then leave it to Clay. But, you have been very vocal about multiple posters...policing so your friends don't have their feelings hurt wont stop the hurt. I say put up anything that you want Clay...I am not a fan of censorship in any form. Let us see the work, damnit. SHOW THE WORK!!! And where is all that free bacon peoplez been speakin' of?
thanks for your support - peace, yo!
The discussion about whether or not posters that did not have venue info on them was not started when I commented on this poster. And yes, you are correct, it is the same as the Freakshow poster in that respect.
I am by far not the only person who has commented on this subject, so I feel it's a little unfair of you to call me out on it.
I did not bring the subject up either, Clay asked for opinions and I gave him mine. The reason I feel the way I do is because there have been other people whose posters were not allowed on the site for the reason that they did not have dates on them. I'm all about being FAIR. It's not FAIR to allow SOME but not others.
Sorry if that bothers you.
This is a perfect example of the contradiction in tolerance going on. This is a beautiful poster and it is listed as a tour poster. There's no space to write in anything. PM you even say "yes...I like this a lot." but there's no comment to yank it because it doesn't qualify by your documented criteria. Should it be yanked now? I wouldn't have been privy to any of Frank's discussion on how it was done and how long it took if it had never made it. This info is really cool to me and I'm glad this one is here.
The Girly Freakshow is gone as far as I can tell yet it met all the same criteria of this one. I'm well aware there is a buddy system here as I see different groups gang up on "discussions" all the time. And this isn't a pointing of a guilty/ innocent finger to anyone. Just stand by what you say across the board don't pick and choose just because this was done by an idol to many and the others weren't. I say if it's made Clay's cut then it should stay. If you feel you had one that should have been here resubmit it. Maybe Clay has re thought the guidelines due to the last round of discussions.
This thing took like 80 hours to draw...I was going through one of my 'I really can draw' phases...i think for the 6 months afterward all I did where photoshop collages..hah!
I did it at 100% of size(about 21" x 32") on index with rapidographs. I actually did it all freehand...it took a lot of pencilling first to get all that hair down...I always smear the ink when I use french curves, so I rarely use them.
