If for any reason you want to see the KICK ASS back of this poster lemme know and I'll post it in a forum. Art had to collage the filligree together and it is AMAZING and hard to believe. Impossible to do any other way than by hand. Thanks.
oh, and sorry to disappoint you, but if you're referring to the bit about the fire, that wasn't jamie sheehan (my gal), but julie lasky (good friend and author of the book. she used to be editor of print magazine). sorry.
yeah, it seemed 'smashed to me, too. the problem was that the hemp paper was only available in sizes that would have made a more 'proportionally accurate' dollar waay too small. it's a poster, ya know? it's gotta be seen. so, we squished it. makes the whole idea even wonkier if you ask me. and that's a good thing...
There is something about the square format of this that makes it seem odd to me. I imagine it's because we are used to seeing a dollar bill as a rectangle, but the format makes it seem kinda smashed.
I'm glad it's up here though.
p.s. Art & Jamie - the part of Art's book about you two meeting was the cutest!
by the way, that 'i grew hemp' is rubberstamped on each poster. it's a popular pro-hemp campaign to rubberstamp you $1 bills with that word ballon - it demonstrates the economic power of the hemp constituancy. it's an idea that began in the 70's with the 'queer money' campaign out of san francisco - which was extremely powerful poilitical impact and began the loosening of anti-gay laws. since this was 'hippie money' we felt obliged to rubberstamp each one. took awhile, but it ain't officially finished until we personally rubberstamp the poster. all unstamped posters are pirates...
ps - washington WAS a hemp farmer and a big pot smoker. franklin is on record as a pot smoker and so is lincoln. they said so IN THEIR OWN WRITTEN HAND, so there's no disputin'.
Yes, Chantry and I did this one together, as with all the HEMPFEST posters. The form didn't allow me to put both names, which I didn't realize til I filled it out. GOOD CALL.
Didnt' Chantry collaborate with Sheehan on this one? Really great poster.....it's smart and funny...the subtle, slightly stoned looking alteration of George's face is great.
Nice to see it was hand-done and not a font.
