Elvgren was and still is the fucking man. His colors glow with a richness that defies logic. I saw a few originals of Elvgren and Leyendecker at the Illustration House in NYC and I damn near fell into tears. It fucking enrages me that theirs and other illustrtors work is disgaurded as trash by the uppity art fucks.
On CJOB in my town, there was a show called "Those Old Radio Shows", where they would broadcast episodes of "X-1", "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar", "The Shadow", and many others. I miss that shit. They play typical soft AM hits until that syndicated dude comes on...y'know, the dude with the aliens and shit...
Whats even worse are reels and reels of CBS radio shows from the 30'-early 60's rotting away in vaults because there is no 'market' for them, according to CBS brass. Many of the lost episodes of Carlton E. Morse's 'I LOVE A MYSTERY' are rumored to be in these vaults...falling apart.
If you arent into old time radio drama (suspense and horror, in particular) just wait...
Im gradually converting everyone I come in contact with. Im already burning cd's and sending them out.
The University of Kansas owns the estate and all the originals.
they are stuffed in a storage locker. Grad student friend of mine tried to get them properly archived but the bluenoses in the art dept would not budget for it. the shit is rotting away. fucking sad.
