i dunno, jim. those guys in zeke are one of those outfits who hired me to do a record cover for them and then mysteriously vanished on me - wouldn't return phone calls, nuthin. so, they're in my "what the fuck was that all about?" category.
there have been a number of bands who hired me like that and then vanished. sometimes it's after they see my ideas (and even sometimes take them and use them on their own) and sometimes it happens in the early meeting stages, and sometimes it happens immediately. i wish i could say it's because i pissed them off or something, but it doesn't seem to be the case. they just are fulla shit or saomething.
Oh man!! I wanted to see that double bill so bad! But they didn't come anywhere near here. The Melvins did play Chicago around then. But Jucifer was opening, not Zeke. Not that that's bad. IT's just not Zeke. I think that tour was the last one they did before they broke up.
Yeah, Zeke was supposed to play hre last March with High on Fire. They cancelled off the tour due to "personal reasons". High on Fire continued on with Cut Throats 9 and played the show instead. But Cut Throats 9 cancelled that night too. I think there was a death in someone's family.
The thing was, I could have done that show. I'll never forget getting the e-mail wanting to know if I'd be interested in promoting a Zeke/High on Fire show. I was so excited. I then realized the e-mail was sent 9 days earlier and it was way too late for me to get involved. I didn't have my own computer back then and I had to rely on someone to relay my e-mail to me. She didn't do a very good job. But whatever.
zeke's break-up was most unfortunate. i caught camarosmith a few months ago and left after 3 songs. old-guy, tight-jeaned, rock-star posturing. it was BAD!
a long time ago, the mafia got started doing things for zeke.. they love their work.. infact, i think i posted here how they broke up..
donny paycheck called me asking for a new poster by the mafia, i gave him their new phone # etc.. anyway, that is when he was like "not for zeke for we broke up, our new band is camarosmith"... they did tons for those dudes.
i know printmafia is a respectable and talented bunch, so i'm not accusing anybody of anything, ok?
i still lived in seattle when these shows happened. even though i kept very close tabs on what was being done locally then, and i have no recollection at all of ever seeing this poster anywhere. what's the story behind it?
No one's commented on this, huh. Alright. Well, it's definitely fitting for the band. Reminds me a lot of one of their album covers. Like how some of the type runs off into the borders. But my main thing is this. Holy Shit!! What a fuckin' bill!! That's the kind of perfect dream bill for that kind of music that I would kill to bring in to town. Of course knowing how fucked up my town is, I'd probably lose my ass. Zeke did sell out the only time they played here though. They're one of the few underground bands a lot of people like around here. It's just lots of similar bands they're not into. Go figure.
