tun·dra:
1) A treeless area between the kneecap and the trim line of the nether regions, having a permanently frozen brain capacity and supporting low talents such as the ability to toss their own salad. i.e. "That tundra's got his head so far up his ass, his brain is a dingleberry"
fag? okay, but you are the one named Penishead design studios.. maybe you should just stick to cliche imagery on our posters.. and leave the senstive ones alone..
(actually, i like your posters a lot, many are not cliche, they are gifted..i am sorry to make insults)
warner i normally wouldn't speak directly to you, but that was a nice pun without saying levees, its like good design you should only have to say something once, don't repeat yourself or give away the punchline, its like old derek hess posters (i love hess by the way) he would draw the bandname, he would do it with incredible skill, but it had no real depth, except that guided by voices one, that was deep, and i liked it better hen he did his own type, not letting someone slap letters over his wonderful illustrations, i read this book about robots last week, about how they see things we can't, wierd.
i bet that this going to be a great show, i've never been to CMJ, i bets its alot of fun, and i bet there is alot of neat people, and i am sure that i would have a good time if i did go to cjm in new york, this is a pretty poster with wierd people in water and they look scared and creepy, jermaine has good color schemes most of the time, he should make a toy out of this thing, it would sell like hot cakes on a winters morn in colorado, man i love hot cakes, maple syrup and lots and lots of butter, art is funny, 8ball is funny too, they smell like peanuts and tomatoe soup, i think that my dad is calling me i'll go now.
sink to your level? calling you stupid is like saying water is wet. it's sooooo obvious over the years that it's a given.
hell, you LOVE being a blockhead. you actually seem to think it makes cool or "punk" or something.
what an idiot.
8ball -
hey, i'd be happy to call you stupid. 'cept that's to kind. i think you're do far beyond stupid that you might be psycho. an ignorant self-righteous mean-spirited arrogant psycho. no joke.
but, in the meantime i'll just say - YOU'RE STUPID!
feel better, now? good.
I'm quite a fan of Doves, and i also love Jermaines work... i think that the poster could be apt for the band, and if there is a connection to Katrina it makes it even more relevant considering that their latest album is based around the concept of cities being destroyed.... it's even in the title of the record 'In Some Cities There's Too Much History Comming Down', given the historical significance of NO i think it would be perfectly fitting.
I don't care about the "tragedy of Hurricane Katrina". I'm stupid.
I also don't care about tornadoes, tsunamis, cyclones, earthquakes, floods, pestilence, heat waves, droughts, etc.
In other words, I don't particularly care about acts of nature, as they will happen when they will.
I can't control EVERYTHING around me, can I?
Call me stupid.
I do not know what jermaines intentions on this poster were..I can not speak for him. After watching so many sad stories on TV for the past week, that is what I see in this poster. To me it is very obvious. Knowing Jermaine from his posts on this site, he does not care what other people think, everyone can have their own interpretations. I do know this poster will sell out quick- to fans of the band and jermaine fans.. and i would not consider myself a huge fan, but i see thousands of posters on this site, and this one is primal and urgent, like cutting through the red tape to get the job done.
I would really, really, like to know Jermaine's thoughts are about this poster. I would also like to know what the "true" Doves fans think about his poster direction.
I would like to know if Jermaine had any intentions of Katrina when this poster was designed.
Boadicea, you did a great job explaining the poster in your earlier comments, but you never mentioned why it fits the band. You're right this poster does accomplish 2 things...Concoon 1 and Coccon 2.
this poster captures the vibe of the band's music perfectly, and still manages to be true to the poster artist's style and vision... to say someone does not care about the tragedy of hurricane katrina is so stupid, especially as they tour on US soil, thats just plain ignorant.
See jermaine, you show your sensitive side, and people are ready to trash it.
Doves are ex-DJ's from the UK...I don't think they give a god damn about Katrina.
I'm not too sure this says Doves to me either...would've been a good poster for the movie "Cocoon" or "Cocoon 2 - The Return".
They are both suffering and abandoned
But they are not alone
They are caring for each other
That is the story
This is an Important poster.
(the white ripples in the water almost look like an heart, battered and bruised but connecting them.)
Jermaine, sometimes.. sometimes your posters are too good for this site..
wow! Now this is good. this poster accomplishes 2 things. It captures current events perfectly as 2 lost and dehumanized souls, abondoned in the flood, have to fend for themselves, amidst the unspeakable horrors of which they have seen. Their bodies organic and fleshy and pink and vulnerable. Their expressions are so powerful. Their mouths, open wounds of sorrow. And, at the same time, as a description of the human condition, this poster is timeless. Great colors. Great execution. Deceptively simple, but haunting and powerful.
