This is a beautiful great poster, I'm not disputing that at all.
(in a friendly tone:) I'm well aware of poster history and of Wes and Bonnie and Mouse and so on, and I certainly know where it came from first, but
all I am saying is I (me personally) like it better when your posters had your own letting style, not the 60s or the 80s or whatever. They did it already, it competes with your illustrations, to my eyes.
Why would someone of your stature do such a lot amount of posters that are based on someone else's thing? There surely must be something more than 60s psyche lettering for the modern bands that you are making posters for?
Ok, I can see doing a parody or homage poster, like if some did a total Fillmore style poster for one EF show, that would be interesting/funny/ etc, but for a you have been doing it for a whole body of work now.
Look at that new one you did with the two creatures kissing in the water, looks like no one else, it is all your own.
I just would like it better, fuck me it's just my opinion, no offense meant, if you had your own lettering style that was just for you.
I really like the illustration and love the colours. Also digging the more horizontal aproach. Not really feeling the type though, doesn't appear as well considered as the rest.
Cool poster though.
I love the little harpy dudes, and I'd like one or two around the house. You know, to give the cats something to play with, or vice versa.
Wes Wilson was great, but I always thought Bonnie McLean kicked everyone else's ass.
Psych lettering = 'early Kozik look'?
Hmmm...
Okay.
I told Wes Wilson the other day that I had been apeing him, lately. He said I was handling it pretty well.
Believe it or not, KZ didnt do psych lettering...even 'acid psych' first.
But boy he did do it well. ;)
The drawing is really great on this,
but why are your posters lately going through this Early Kozik lettering look?
In my personal opinion, don't get mad, but your posters lose something with that lettering look cause it immediately reminds me of early Kozik posters.
You had your own lettering style and its been gone for a long time.
Sorry, call me whatever you want, but that's what I first feel on impact of seeing your posters lately.
