Funnily enough it wasn’t the Samurai that first caught the attention but the use of colour..bright eye-bustin’ colour..don’t know the band so made light of that..but kept comin back to the dominant colour..
It is a distraction to the Samurai..historically a dominant figure..here shown with sword leashed..passive..In support mode even..as a buttress..everything has that simple touch..contrast to ways of the Japanese..
Except..best of all..the tattoos and their intricate detail..reminding me of Yakusa..gangsters no doubt influenced by the Samurai warriors...there’s that colour again.. Warriors..furious.. aggressive.. murderous..DARK…
My mind makes little sense of this poster and I am guessing that what makes it interesting..An artist letting go and enjoying the freedom..I’m going with the flow..to the blue sea behind..a simple interpretaton of the japanese seascape prints where the blue waves are topped with intricate white crests..
Hey vibranium,
Basically I felt like drawing a sumari. They didn't want to go down the same ol' design route they had so it was more like do whatever the hell you want. The image really has nothing to do with the band, which in THIS case is exactly what was wanted. Cheers!
not dogging this at all...i was just curious what the concept here is. what little (very, very, very little) i know about the band...is at odds with the image, so i'm really very curious. don't take offense Pete, i'm just wondering...
