There is always a little rubbing off of the more prolific designers here. More than anything the challenging notions as to legible typography which I enjoy watching the boundaries being pushed and pulled.
Having said that - this little puppy is really all about the stubble and puckered lips. Totally seals the deal. Dig it.
gun sho, I agree with ya. but still... has this style become a movement? I don't necessarily call it a "seripop" movement, but this look is being done by a few folks. Granted, seripop does it best. I would even classify Deforgeo's work in the same style. Some folks have their own flavor and others just ride coattails, but there's definitely a certain, same "school of thought" going on.
I find it to be quite interesting, and happy to be here to see it in person.
i'd be stoked if seripop's influence was enough to start a movement. unfortunately i think it's a case of someone who figures that if they make enough of something, people will forget where the influence came from.
i'm sure that devon is a cool kid and i like that he works so hard but as long as he continues to ape seripop, it's not going to hit the mark. seripop does seripop better than devon does seripop. that's the bottom line.
As an artist, I would not be happy to produce work that looks so similar to another artist's. It's a dead-end street and you'll never get any recognition that way.
Having said that, there's nothing wrong with this poster, I actually kind of like it. But the lack of originality prevents me from saying it kicks ass.
Well I think it kicks ass.
sure it looks like a klansman. whatever. Since it's printed in black it actually looks more like a hooded Abu Grahib inmate to me. But incidental associations like that have nothing to do with my reaction, which is that it kicks ass.
Nor do I care who did it, how "original" the style is or appears to be, who it was purportedly influenced by, etc.
Perkins: "Peace and eternity and death and destruction are one and the same."
i have a bangin' headache already dude and then you just Buddha-blew my mind.
hardly and asshole. it's hard to use a face like this and not see a little Klan. not that it is intentional. just one of those things, like the original Chinese symbol of the swastika meaning peace and eternity but looking like death and destruction.
I don't mean to sound rude here, but is it too much to ask for artists to develop their own style? Not that this isn't cool, but come on...the influence is pretty blatant.
