PlantweedSend Plantweed a message :   The best place around here for Buffalo wings (Scubber's) has an impossible poster from these guys that lists Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, etc. AFTER they died.   2005-10-24 11:47:24
scrojoSend scrojo a message :   "The company that makes these posters and all the ones that look like this have been doing this for about 30 years. Every outdoor fleamarket, convention, etc has someone selling a box of them all over the country. Also, many stores sell boxes of these too, in Boston I saw them in the Army Navy store. This company also makes film posters that look like these (heavy stock paper, same size).
Lots of people buy them as momentos. I have a bunch of them, Alice Cooper, Kiss, etc, etc.
They're fakes but not fakes. After 30 years, they are an american institution by now." if it's only one company making these......why hasn't someone gone after them??
i'm honestly curious/concerned.

KDBSend KDB a message :   I have one of these. Different venue, I think. More of a "commerative" poster than a "fake"...   2005-10-24 11:22:41

art chantrySend art chantry a message :   the biggest joke of all is the idea that they will get rich selling posters - fake or otherwise.   2005-10-24 09:37:27
DenisMutterSend DenisMutter a message :   I never understand getting it wrong on a fake. It's so easy not to fuch it up, it's almost like, forgers take no pride in their work anymore.
Back in the day, bootleg t-shirts were always better than the real thing. cheaper too.

art chantrySend art chantry a message :   i saw play for free afternoon show at the local gay pride day here in a st. louis park. she had cut her hair off and dyed the stubble blond. she basically did a 'greatest hits of punk' set and included sex pistols, clash, buzzcocks as well as her big numbers. she'd just come off a stint playing frank n. furter in rocky horror on broadway (or something) and did great covers of 'science fiction/double feature' as a great rendition of "the time warp". great show. blew everybody's sox off.   2005-10-24 08:37:56
PlantweedSend Plantweed a message :   Joan's a big role model in the lesbian community now, my sister has big pics of them together at shows and stuff.   2005-10-24 07:15:38
ricv64Send ricv64 a message :   I think it was Jonathon Postal of the Readymades, "4 15 music, white boys, white noise," who did most of the mabuhay Garden flyers of this era . I think the Runaways were playing the Old Waldorf at this time frame   2005-10-24 07:07:30
art chantrySend art chantry a message :   joan jet spent a lot of time in seattle during the glory year (singular). she lived in the condo across the street from me - the one that was supposedly the setting for the frasier tv show. in fact, it was sort of cocaine condo, with police racing there every other day. that building was a pain in the ass. she moved out.
grushkin - it gets so relative. so many of the posters on this sight are fake, so how is this fake any worse than so many others? these letterpress fakes are ubiquitous, but it's no more fake than dozens of others here. where is the line drawn?
jerry clayworth - the correct address probably means these posters were printed up in san francisco, so they actually knew what the address for the fab mab actually was. otherwise, they wouldn't even bother to get it right (if there is an address at all.) i mean, if you were doing a fake poster for the showbox in seattle, would you bother to find the proper address? why bother?

Jerry ClayworthSend Jerry Clayworth a message :   Yes, fake. That's a 1976 band photo w/Cherie, she left the band in '77 just after the band toured Japan. It also lists Vicki Blue who was in the final lineup (in '78), but never during Cherie's stint (Jackie Fox is the bassist pictured).
I'm surprised the maker actually got the address correct in their haste to make a couple of quick bucks.

phoondaddySend phoondaddy a message :   I would think it's a fake too.
I have a fake Miles Davis poster that has a number in the bottom right hand corner exactly like this one and the poster says 1959. I knew it was a fake when i bought it. Plus, they name all the members on this one.
Who knows.

8ballSend 8ball a message :   I met Joan Jett once when I was 16. L7 was playing some gig at the Palladium and Donita invited me and my friends to show up early for the soundcheck. Joan Jett was there because she was supposed to do a couple Runaways covers with L7.
Anyways, Donita introduces her to me, I shake her hand, and in the burliest man-voice ever, Joan Jett goes "HEY! HOW'S IT GOIN'?"
Fuckin scary!

SalcanzonieriSend Salcanzonieri a message :   I've talked to her and her twin sister a few times, they come out to NJ to the Chiller Theatre convention a bunch of times.
There was supposed to a Runaways reunion tour, Joan Jett had finally said yes and was available, and then Lita Ford decided she didn't want to tour, she lives on a small island she bought with her children and didn't want to leave.
But they don't really look much like they did back then at all, except for Joan, who looks fine.
