art chantrySend art chantry a message :   this cartoon character you see on a lot of olympia's postering comes from a huge general discount store called 'yardbird's'. they had this guy pictured all over the entire southern half of washington state. when i was a little kid they had these 'yarbird' figures made out of stovepipe and rebar carrying signs (yardbirds is 'x' miles thataway) peppered all over the northwest. they went out of business about 5 years ago.   2002-09-19 10:11:00
