Dana C... this IS in the poster format... we tacked it to walls this way. but if you want an unfolded one lemme know. Unfortunately HarMar didnt' play the show... the promoter kid gave us the wrong info (I ended up taking over promoter duties from him for this one to make sure it all ran smoothly) but atom loved it. |

Bruce is right...it is actually 6 or 7 square...I'm a bad judge of scale esp. from memory...and I mailed co-credit for the box but Clay said there was just room for one but he'll fix it when he can, fool. Yeah Mistress, we put a few on tables at teh coffee stand at school and it did look really good there. |

Way to give me co-credit for the poster...
I think that the size is actually about 6 or 7 inches square. |

Nolen Strals : |
yeah I've thought of doing one that kinda pops out...just two sides from the wall...like a tall triangle shape, but I don't want to use it just coz it's a gimmick, yknow? I'd rather it relate to the band or a concept that tied it all together...maybe one day...
We wanted it to be bigger...and in actuality it may be like 5 or 5.5 inches...but when you're limited with the size of paper and screen you have...there's only so big it can go unfortunately.
Someone give me a HUGE budget and Bruce and I will do this again, but at like 10 inches! |

Nolen, you are one clever dude. I have to admit, if I saw a freakin' box sticking off the wall with gig info on it I would probably read every word. 4" though, that's not very big. How about a strong vertical one in shallow relief with an image on the front, the names of bands on one side and the location/date on the other? I would like to see that.
Kendra- I wish my mom made posters!! How cool is that! |

Here's a link to a poster my mom did in the late 60s / early 70s (?) that can be cut into a box. Same sort of idea...

Yeah I've wanted to do another 3-D poster, maybe not necessarily a box, but something dimensional..I've kicked around a few ideas, but nothing as on target as this (fitting with "his package").
Die cut! Ha! I wish! We made one stencil of it and then traced that around each print and cut them out by hand with razors. That's why we only did like 15 of em |

Pretty darned innovative there, Nolen. This would be a great idea for advertising in pubs & restaurants on the table tops!
Did you have them die cut?

The idea came to my Collaboratr, Bruce Willen and I as we were trying to figure out what to do...and were gonna set type on a flat sheet to suggest a 3-d box, then Bruce said "why dont' we just make it a box?" So I figured out how to print it flat with all the folds and flaps...and drew the super-bitmappy drawing on top (a punk fighting a robot) in Photoshop while Bruce found some really lo-tech bitmap Japanese fonts on the internet...then we just printed it out. Printed about 50 of them...folded up about 15 I think. It looked really good hanging on walls around school, sitting on security desks, and sticking out from record store walls...definitely something different for those places.
Folding it up was fine until closing it up on the last panel (the bottom) but they came out okay. The sound system we had for the show sucked, but it was cool to play with Atom and he loved the box/poster (it's only about 4 inches tall I think). |
