I think this is a wonderful poster. I have seen both Camilla Rose Garcia and Gary Taxali's work, which reminds me (as does this poster from Scrojo) of the great cartoons from the 1930s.
that's your take on it.
poster art, by it's nature is subversive, thus without rules and restrictions. she should spend her hard earned cash sueing scrojo. i'm sure she will feal vindicated. as an advertisement for a stupid music show, it works just fine. will scrojo sustain an art career entering this in gallery shows, and jerk-off competitions, prolly not. who cares? poster art is not taken seriously in the art world. if it was, these planks would sell for more than 15.00 a pop.
well its always nice to learn from other artists, it really is the highest of compliments. as you grow as an artist you take bits and pieces from different styles that have inspired you along the way. I sure hope my work inspires people at some point, its one of the reasons I create art in the first place. On one hand you can learn from her style, she has very nice details, fun color schemes, fun textures, lots to learn from. Alex grey would always recreate art from the masters paintings , but those were excercises, not commercial work. its tricky and very debatable. I could also see camillias beef, when someones making money sponging off her style, but I think your intentions are sincere and the art was created in a flattering manner. the arts great but it is almost an exact copy. If Im copying a picture of mickey mouse and hes holding a golf club, but I recreate the art and change him into holding a fishing pole, I didnt create anything original, I just copied his style and slightly modifyed it. your original art is awesome, but I understand that you always have to make room for learning and growing, expanding that imagination muscle.your personal work will be stronger for it,but printing someone elses style is...quite debatable.
it probably is too close in style to garcia. that said, it's still an effective poster, so at least you didn't end up using someone else's style but in a shitty way. that's just.. disheartening when that happens.
mmm* no rip intended but i can see what you're saying. i started out drawing the doll then started adding bits from garcia's painting for feel but......obviously hit too close.
It is kind of weird to put this on a poster considering that she is really famous for this style right now. If she would have done an X poster like this I would be shitting my pants but as it stands it seems like a rip.
