I can sorta understand his gripe as far as permission if this is truly a "unique" poster but I assure I wasn't aware of the situation. Never ran across a flyer that had a run of 1. And if Clay was charging to view the posters then I could understand any talk of copywrite, but that's also not the case.
Don't confuse who submitted with the designer. I posted these cause I love Joy Division and thought GP should have a sampling of JD fliers. If heronaddict knows the full backstory on this then even better. Let's fill in the gaps of who designed this, how it came to be, all of that.
That's my opine. Share this stuff so others can appreciate it.
yeah i really don't understand this conversation. are you griping because the pic is on gigposters so other people can appreciate it? or is your gripe that as a collector you should be the only one to have the image?
I find this to be a great flyer. Rather than complaining about "copywrite" (which i'm sorry, does not apply and is kinda silly issue in itself) I'd provide a high res scan, give information on the original designer, story on how this came about, etc.
so you planned on locking it away so no one could appriciate it ? I thought this was a site for looking at posters then offering to stab someone in the leg for a copy
normally i wouldn't get into a discussion like this, because ultimately, i don't care, but here's how i see the situation:
1) since you didn't create the flyer, you don't hold a copyright for it. that would be like me buying a kozik poster and suing someone who legitimately put part of the image on a t-shirt.
2) there was obviously more than one copy made. i would assume that you had your poster signed by the band quite a while before gigposters.com was around, correct? then where are the signatures on this poster?
Yes ,. I do "own" this poster.
Only one was made by a member of the support band , and a few years later I managed to get it signed by 3 remaining members.
Last year , I scanned it and shared it with a man in France, to put on his website. I am looking at the poster now , and as for copyright , I do not know , but I should think permission to copy and paste was not sought.
As far as I know , there is only one in existance .
I own this poster.
I have only supplied one person with a copy for their JD website.
This has been cut/copied.
Did you ask for permission to use this image ?
