My favorite Lure poster. From the "notch" period. You can tell Jeff loves this band. He's got two brilliant posters here for them. The Go Lounge was the coolest bar in Orlando, too.
Yes, he made a deal with the GGP people and they are allowed to sell the park posters in their shops. They run from $24 in the GGP shops to about $30 in postershops. If you want the bigass Muir Woods one you need to sell your car. Heck when they hung the big Chrissy Field version in the busstops you could 'buy' them for more then 200 dollars. Crazy. I do have to say again though that his GGP serie really hits the nail on the head. Love the text, font whatever he uses which is that old style that is used on the big wooden signs outside of each GGP location. Love them, and there must be more then 20 different ones now. I am a bit biased cuz I lived inthe area and spend many hours in those parks, lighthouses valley and whathave you. Reminds me of some great times. If you buy signed posters thru his shop prices run much higher though. In that respecs he is expensive but then again he is doing very well professionaly with all his commercial work for wineries, banks, horse races.....
You can purchase these prints through on his web site as well as in some nature catalogs. I was in San Fran a year or 2 ago and was able to pick up 2 of them, they are pretty cheap too.
Schwab had this awesome Little Richard poster. Unfortunately he ran into legal trouble with LR's management and decided not to release the poster which was too bad. As for the Golden Gate Park posters, I wish I could have the big silkscreen version of the Muir Woods and also the big Chrissy Field offset one that was plastered all over San Francisco 2 years ago in those Muni busstop ad places. I love the simple clear lines that he uses. Also when you bring in the advertising, promoting or PR side of things, the stuff he did with the Golden Gate Park series is amazing.
If you like Goines you should go to Chez Panizze in berkely and pick up some of the work he did for the owner. Pretty cool, and he has an amazing body of work.
Schwab is a machine. and pricey...we tried to use hm...BTW - Jeff, this one RULES. and for all the reasons already mentioned. I remeber this 'period' of yours. the frames...canons...It's a STAND-OUT.
I count Michael Schwab as a huge influence. Truly a talented designer and POSTER artist. If you guys dig him check out the work of his mentor David Lance Goines,AMAZING STUFF and extra appriciated if your a silkscreen poster artist and relize how complicated his work gets.
This one's very funny!!! It fits the band, and from a distance, it's a pill bottle.
The type/action lines are weird though. Maybe a thinner font? I dunno. If the type wasn't there, I (the viewer) wouldn't have caught on that it's falling. It also reminds me of one of those famous stamps that were printed incorrectly.
