Thanks Rhys!! interestingly, my original intent was to make this a series. I even had a story line sort of thought out. But when it comes to my poster work, because I like to take advantage of the fact that I can experiment with different styles and techniques...I sorta left it behind. Maybe I will now that you got me thinking about it again!
Gink this is by far one of the most intersting and cool ways to present type and the concept of "gig details". I love it. Would be happy to see a series develop. Hope you wouldn't be offended if I borrowed the concept if the right job came up. Let me know. Otherwise I would love to get one, are you selling?
Thanks All!!! I'll definitely bring some to the show.
At some point I want to bring this dude (and his mysterious woman) back into a couple other posters. sorta do a series. We'll see.
I also know little of the bands involved but would pick this piece up anyway..just for the layout and means of displaying the information..Cool!..Reckon though the face expression says more than the words..He looks pissed!
Thanks! This had a very limited budget and very short run so I went Digital offset which has a max depth of 17" (if anyone knows a place that can do larger digital offset printing, please let me know). The size on this is 7.5" x 17", which makes the face pretty big. I inked the face with a Sakura Brush Pen at actual size and scanned in a piece of distressed newsprint for the background. I used Photoshop in multiply to apply the color for a somewhat transparent ink look. Probably more info than you needed Nolen but you caught me at a jabberin' moment. :)
Very creative way to bring in the show info. Nice illustration too. I agree with Nolan, Colors and 'newsprint' paper are a nice touch. Bold and Simple. great work!
even though I'm not a fan of these bands, I like the use of 'borrowed' comic book art and how the color stays true to the source. I also like that the type is fairly subtle...just curious as to how big this is.
