Wow, I feel pretty ridiculous right now, kenyata here - yep, (1) I swiped this, and (2) I'm waaaay old enough to know better. I'm not the guy who posted the two fliers that just went up, but I felt I had to register and post a comment , if only to fess up in public that I made them, and take any (well deserved) drubbing that might be coming my way.
We picked up this show at the last minute (it comes up in about a week, a benefit for ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease), and I had some fliers on my harddrive I'd downloaded a while back just 'cause I thought they were cool - I did a quick fix up job due to time constraints, not thinking anyone would see them outside of my little town of Wilmington, NC.
I never thought these images would leave my little backwater - not that that makes it OK, just that I thought it wouldn't do any harm, and I was obviously wrong. I guess I just wanted to say I wasn't trying to hurt anyone, and it never occurred to me in a million years that anyone would even think about this flier past the end of next week.
I know you guys have an active community here, and truly don't want to disrespect that, nor do I want to disrespect the artists who've worked so hard. Both fliers should definitely be taken off the site. And I also definitely deserve a good swift kick for cutting corners, no matter what the reason was, or whether I thought anyone would see it.
So, I guess, all I can say is, guilty as charged, feel free to kick away. I humbly plead guilty, and throw myself upon the mercy of the court.
Damn! I'm like, "Brian didn't steal this! Lay off!",... I was sure it was his poster,... this is what happens when i log on before I drink a gallon of espresso,...
Mike! What's Mike going to do for a head?
yeah of course. it's just that they would have to be young to not know this is where this sort of thing LIVES and that a poster of a poster is right out. It's an old dead horse by now. Let's teach them young, or beat them like my daddy did me. Case closed.
as I think about this, and having been there (borrowed from) and totally understanding the practice of a young enthusiast to pilfer cool art, and NOT to disparage Kenyata, I ask a question and also give a simple advice:
1- How old is the artist? (simply to know if they are young enough to learn a lesson, or are the old enough to should have known better)
2- Try borrowing cool imagery from anything OTHER than other posters. There are a wealthy of wacky book covers and Satanic JC Penney catalogues that would lend themselves perfectly to an ALS benefit poster.
