Just got this in the mail.. the metallic paper and content (especially the ray gun) reminds me of like 60's diner with a space age theme. I dig it, thanks Todd.
slater - "Did Kim actually say her foot fell asleep during the show?"
Yes, it was the weirdest thing I have ever seen. She just leaned on the drum riser the whole time. If she didn't keep lighting cigarettes you probably would have forgotten she was even there. As they were leaving the stage before the encore she was limping off the stage. Someone must have yelled out are you OK or something and she turned to the audience and said “I’m OK, my foot fell asleep.” I was laughing so hard.
I just like to hear Charles scream, I've never been bored at a Pixies show but I get what you all are saying.
Did Kim actually say her foot fell asleep during the show?
theres such a thing as recorded material..and when the recordings were made the intent was there..so therefore, did they intend to be boring when it was recorded, or does the boredom diminish with antiquity? it must be just me, i bought a few pixies albums, i thought they were good, but its appreciation of their originality which toadly outweighs what they do for me on any other level.
“back-in-the-day” (I always love that. It is the best way to say you are 40 or over and hopefully pass yourself off as cool or whatever.)
"? I haven't a chance in Hell of passing myself off as cool."
It wasn't directed at you. I always wish I would catch myself before I say it as well. But it is a true thing. If "you" saw some of these bands in their first or second years like some of us “older folk” you would be less apt to just disregard them because of their popularity. Coltrane and Miles were hugely popular in their day and I don’t think there is one person on this site who doesn’t know who I am talking about even though I didn’t use their whole name. I have a rule: if it is popular it CAN”T be good but there are a few exceptions; very few exceptions.

Pixies were never known for their dazzling live shows. It is also too easy in 2005 to blow them off. At the time (which is the case with all music genres) there was nothing else like them. They were a unique sound. Now every little indie douche who starts a band either sites them or rips them off. Same could be said of every genre including noise, jazz, punk, etc… Let’s face music has become a tired parody of itself. Still, I thought musically the Pixies sounded great when I recently saw them. I saw them many times “back-in-the-day” (I always love that. It is the best way to say you are 40 or over and hopefully pass yourself off as cool or whatever.) and they were boring to watch then and they are boring to watch now but that is not what the Pixies were about. Apparently Joy Division sometimes would play in the dark in fear of Ian Curtis’ seizures does that mean they were boring or unoriginal? It’s about the music isn’t it? Just a thought.
I saw them twice back in the day & thought they were disappointing live. I was lucky enough to see their performance a couple of months ago for Austin City Limits though, and it was incredible. They were 2/3 into a two hour set before they played anything after Doolittle.
Hadn't even logged in yet and saw this. I knew right away it was you. Your design oriented posters have such a great flavor to them. Great work as usual.
I saw one of the last NYC shows. The Pixies are still the greatest bored band on earth. Kim Deal leaned on the drum riser for so long that her foot fell asleep.
i was at the 12/4 show, and let me just say the acoustics at the tweeter center are horrendous, as are the lines of vision. and not one single videoscreen, this from a corporation who sells big screen TVs! nice poster though - frank must have a thing for eyeballs.
