Streamline is an ADOBE software that vectorizes your images (i.e.) 'smooths them out. After an image is scanned into photoshop, theres always that irritating detail to deal with of PHOTOSHOP ever-so-slightly pixelating your imagery. And, even if you do pretty raw artwork with different types of pens, there is a tendency for the smoothness of your stroke to be lacking. STREAMLINE maps out your entire image and vectorizes it...turning the whole image into artwork. The difficult thing about it is that you must learn the correct tolerances, and one tolerance setting does NOT fit all. It depends on your artwork. Once you have established settings that work for your line quality and style, save them. After converting your artwork, it will save the file as an 'art.file', which you can easily open in a program like ILLUSTRATOR. Its a great program: I use it a lot, and Id think it would be a good idea for any artist to at least know how to use it...even if he doesn't. On the question of STREAMLINE making something look like a photocopy: that is not the intended use of the software, but it CAN do that...and thats the fun part of playing with software for me. Ive had much success doing things the WRONG way...or at least using tools for purposes other than that for which they were intended. This poster of Pete's looks as though it was done this way at first glance: thats what I thought until he told me otherwise. It looked like he scanned an image of a guy, set the tolerances very loosely on STREAMLINE and converted the image, causing that 'photocopy' effect which is REALLY cool when it's backed up by screenprinting. If you try it, just remember to things: (1)read the instruction handbook and (2)dont take the handbook too seriously. In art, 'technique' and 'opinion' can sometimes be the same thing. So, read the handbook and learn how to use the tools, so you can screw with em.
lol.. pete is like an old dog.. he does things his way... heck i bet if he had the time, he would draw each poster by hand :)
when in boston, i had to help him crank start his model t ford car to get it started up :) one cold night..
but seriously, people love the way the posters come out, very rustic.. heck someone said a "messy chantry"... that is probably one of the nicest things you could say to pete about his posters...
hey happy new years all!!!
what's this streamline program? Does it just make it look like a photocopy so you dont' have to actually use a copier? It simplifies the shapes for you?
Hey Jermaine,I'm doing OK.I did not run this thru streamline as a matter of fact i never used stream line although I hear it is a great program and should look into it I suppose. This was just draw out then scanned it in played with it in the computer for text etc.. cut my sep's then screenprinted out. It's one of my favorites.
