gun shoSend gun sho a message :   this poster reminds me of a burwell, hands down.
it doesn't mean it sucks. it's just the way it is.

seripopSend seripop a message :   guy's work is way better imo   2004-11-13 12:00:17
junkbondtraderSend junkbondtrader a message :   yeah, burwell comparison for this one is weak.
this thing stands on its own. great job.

gun shoSend gun sho a message :   i think that the illustration isn't so reminiscent of guy's work, but the composition with the illustration in the forground, a solid type moving horizontally across the entire page, and the overall negative space, makes the overall design very similar to a guy's work.
guy's compositions create a sense of energy because the figures tend to stay at one part of the page, leaving an open area that is pulled towards the figure. that tension is what makes the compositions energetic. that techinque is being used in this particular poster.
examples of the type composition that i'm referring to:

bdixSend bdix a message :   Besides the long arms/legs, I'm not seeng the Burwell connection (speaking strictly on the illo). At least, not enough to dis it as being a wanna be Burwell.
Dude, you've got tight illo skills. Keep up the work.

l.stalionsSend l.stalions a message :   not as good as a burwell...definietly wants to be a burwell. this is good but it would be so much better if the style was more original.   2004-11-09 14:31:32
DRGSend DRG a message :   I think the type works fine - the illo really pops over the top. I love this. :)   2004-11-09 12:55:08
RenoSend Reno a message :   thanks for the costruc-crit (and for the compliments as well). I'm always fearful of the type becoming too dominant if I go crazy on it, but I'll take your suggestions into my concrete head and push it a little next time. thanks!   2004-11-09 12:16:02
bdixSend bdix a message :   Oh, I agree that all text doesn't have to be hand drawn or crazy. Nothin' wrong with clean text (I like it too), but more could be done to this one text-wise to bring it closer to the same level as the illo. I'm sure most people will like this just the way it is, but if the text had the same attention to detail as the illo, this one would be on fire.   2004-11-09 10:27:36
[301STUDIOS]Send [301STUDIOS] a message :   Personally, I think clean type works for this. Not a big fan of EVERYTHING having hand-drawn/crazy type. Sometimes it just works. Looks slick.   2004-11-09 09:59:14
bdixSend bdix a message :   Hella clean illo. type needs work.   2004-11-09 09:55:51

ZELIGSend ZELIG a message :   Funny, it looked like a LaChance/Burwell hybrid to me. Love the bearded queens or crossdressing kings.   2004-11-08 21:30:11
RichieGoodtimesSend RichieGoodtimes a message :   Type isn't tight enough to be a Burwell.   2004-11-08 21:27:58
