i would think being compaired to Guy would be a great compliment...GunSho hit it though...in composition it is very similar...influenced I would guess...and therer is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
i think that the illustration isn't so reminiscent of guy's work, but the composition with the illustration in the forground, a solid type moving horizontally across the entire page, and the overall negative space, makes the overall design very similar to a guy's work.
guy's compositions create a sense of energy because the figures tend to stay at one part of the page, leaving an open area that is pulled towards the figure. that tension is what makes the compositions energetic. that techinque is being used in this particular poster.
examples of the type composition that i'm referring to:
Besides the long arms/legs, I'm not seeng the Burwell connection (speaking strictly on the illo). At least, not enough to dis it as being a wanna be Burwell.
Dude, you've got tight illo skills. Keep up the work.
thanks for the costruc-crit (and for the compliments as well).
I'm always fearful of the type becoming too dominant if I go crazy on it, but I'll take your suggestions into my concrete head and push it a little next time. thanks!
Oh, I agree that all text doesn't have to be hand drawn or crazy. Nothin' wrong with clean text (I like it too), but more could be done to this one text-wise to bring it closer to the same level as the illo. I'm sure most people will like this just the way it is, but if the text had the same attention to detail as the illo, this one would be on fire.
