Torch the halo on fire, a better job with the mohawk (or preferrably none at all), have some sort of heroin reference, and you'd have yourself a winner...
Heheheh.
This one seems so long ago even tho it was only last Fall.
Im gonna pretend you didnt bring it up and hope noone notices this PARTICULAR can of worms
I partly agree with Ritchie. This isn't your best execution, but I don't think the idea is half-assed. It could have been better.
I like Johnny as much if not more than most, but he's no sacred angel. Fuck 'em if they can't take a joke.
Definitely the execution. I don't mind the idea of Johnny as the "Punk Rock Angel". I think Social D's version of Ring of Fire is one of the best covers ever. This just doesn't look punk. Looks more like O Brother Where art Thou with a Mohawk wig. BTW, I think all your other posters are very nice.
Well, thus far cherrycoke has at least grasped my intention with this piece. Ive been a fan of both acts since the 80s (my truck driving dad got me into Cash when I was a lil redneck in training back in Omaha) and I considered this more tribute than anything else. THe idea being: "Johnny Cash - Punk Rock Angel"
Perhaps it was just a bum idea to begin with, although I do feel bad that some feel there was some slanderous intent here.
Oddly, Ive found the reaction from regular people encountering these in public is actually much more favorable than what's happening on this thread. Weird.

I don't see the big deal. Nice design and all. I bet Johnny Cash would have liked it. In his day, he was an outlaw and people like him defined what would later be punk. Cash had a huge influence on Social D. It could mean that he is the Patron Saint of Punk. Lighten up.....Rock is suppose to be offensive and rebellious, right? Or has that all changed?

Well this is a miss pretty much all around, I would usually ignore something like this but thought I would comment since you sought advice.
The lesson here is this one did not go, but don't quit, just move ahead
Few designers could have pulled this off. Even less would have wanted to. This does disservice to both bands. Why is the plastic side-flap from the FauxHawk showing? Why bother?
Your other work is nice though.
