Jason...thanks for the critique but I started with the type clean and didn't like it. The bumps on the type are the same as the dot pattern background. I wanted to contrast to the drawing and the rest of the poster...so it would stand out more or
appear to have more visual weight.
i have been looking at this one a lot lately. i usually don't like to critique something unless i have a well formed suggestion, but to me, the type doesn't fit the image. the line quality in the illustration is so nice and overall the whole thing feels clean to me; the type just feels different.
Lil,
I used a paint pen because I liked how it looked and was more free form then if everyone was printed. I wanted each one to be the same but different? I don't know... I just thought it would be cool.
again...thanks all.
I really love this. I was working on a wolf with arrows in it for an upcoming poster when I saw this go up. My friend was over and I was like 'holy shit! look at this' and she was all 'that's much better than the one you're doing. you have to start over.' And I was all 'duh.'
Out of curiosity, did you find that using the paint pen was faster/easier than actually just screening it?
Good work.
fan-freakin-tastic use of spot color. reminds me of the b&w movie Rumble fish when they finally see the fish in the aquarium appear in color.
magnifique!
