This poster is a merch poster. It was not designed to "communicate," it was designed to sell. Thae advertisements for the show were quite legible.
Just wanted to point out that there are purposes other than just advertising for some gig posters. However, I looked through our Fillmore poster book last night, and the illegible, does not communicate well" comment could apply to most of those posters, too.
Mission accomplished..... ;o)

aj_mapesSend aj_mapes a message :   screen resolution and size don't really help legibility. im sure this poster, like many others on this site, are a lot easier to read when they are full size. anyway, cool poster, i like the funky type.   2004-07-29 21:09:33

craveSend crave a message :   I like it too. I just don't think it does a good job of communicating. Artistically, it's solid. If you're hanging it on a wall to show off, then great, but you can almost guarantee that people will pass over it because it's hard to read.   2004-07-29 13:01:24

extrastoutSend extrastout a message :   I'm sure that a print to scale would be easier to read than this though.   2004-07-29 12:00:26

craveSend crave a message :   Ok, Drowning Creek gets my props most of the time. A lot of good work generated there, but I have to radically disagree with a lot of comments here. This thing is hard as hell to read. Sure it's beautiful and I can only imagine how long it took to illustrate, but it lost my attention after struggling through the 3rd word. Perhaps it's because I'm a little slow in the head, but I don't want to spend this much time trying to figure out what its about. I also don't have any patience for those pictures you stare at waiting for something to pop out at you.
It's a very artistic piece, but it doesn't communicate and that is our primary goal as "designers". Otherwise it's just creative masturbation.

standardSend standard a message :   you meant "photoshoot", didn't you? I mean, it was a funny idea for a joke, Jeph.   2004-07-29 08:23:45
JephSend Jeph a message :   This photoshop was exhaustive...I had to sit like that for like 3 hours. It's worth it though, seeing the poster come out like this.   2004-07-29 08:22:52
