"i feel let down by what flaming lips has become. somehow they seem kinda dumb now that they're a big touring band. like they've become a slapstick joke or something. they used to be scary and awesome, not silly."

The slapstick joke is actually on the "old" fans of the Flaming Lips.
I miss the days of "Hit to Death in the Future Head" believe me, but by doing this "slapstick joke" it has
exposed more folks to the greatness that is the Flaming Lips.
i'm going to have to disagree with greymatter here. i didn't actually see the lips in the late 80s, but i've seen some video footage, and it was indeed scary and awesome.
chantry...FL were always silly. you must not have gotten it. and as far as 'scary and awesome' goes...the only thing that was remotely in line with those adjectives was zaireeka, for it's 'scary, awesome' & clever concept; but still, that was later, just before their spoon chasing, no pun intended.

That song has been out for a year and a half . . . if you're only hearing it now, consider yourself fortunate.
I don't mind it, but my tastes are admittedly far more "genteel" (read "pussifed") then yours.
I go out of my way to hate U2. This band I only hate when i hear them. I swear that new :do you realize" song is really one of the worst songs I have ever heard, ever. I seem to remeber hating the really old Flaming Lips stuff as well.
