randomized minimal fun.
as for PIL: i remember there being a "poster" to promote "album" that i saw in a record store. not sure if they used it as a tour poster.
Flipper used to play CB's and it would be hilarious because they would book on shows with hardcore bands. They would play and the kids would go nuts booing and shit very funny. Most would just go outside and wait for them to finish. I love Flipper and hardcore.
I bought that Generic Flipper record and was pretty bummed. I was really into the Misfits and hardcore at the time. I was trying to check out some older bands. Not so happy. About 2 years later I saw Flipper practicing at the Farm in San Fransico and still didn't get it.
This poster is cool.
In order of influences:
Ralphs - a west coast supermarket that sold generic items with this label. Same font as well. Saw this as a kid all too much.
PIL - Love PIL and essentially forgot that they did this as well until I went through my record collection.
Repo Man - People are going to kill me but I don't know what they're talking about when they mention this movie. I do know they soundtrack kicks ass.
Flipper did it first P.I.L. made it famous. This is a great poster. I wonder if there are any P.I.L. posters from that album that used this idea. I can't seem to remember any. I like this a lot.
sorry to be repetative, but my initial impression was the PiL album cover. love the song-RISE. this is nice. minimalism. 4 bands for $4.
what a bargain!
