RobSend Rob a message :   oh, ok. never seen that before. i was thinking the text over the windows was like reid's text over the queens eyes.

art chantrySend art chantry a message :   this was inspired by jamie reid's "nowhere buses" that were for the sex pistols' "pretty vacant" release. in actuality, the buses he used were taken from earlier situationist garphics he did that were used in paris and london in the sixties (and later san francisco in the 70's). they sort of represented a world/establishment/culture going nowhere as slow as possible (and you have to pay the fare). malcolm mclaren (another old situationist buddy of jamie's from the paris days) hired him to adapt the old situationst graphics to the idea of a happy little pop band out to destroy the world.
and now it's in this poster 25+ years later.
good joke.

RobSend Rob a message :   ummmm, ok i didn't get it until i looked up jamie reid. i get it now. the reference is the the text going over the windows right?   2004-03-16 09:15:12

Tom DejaSend Tom Deja a message :   It's strange, I've shown this to a ton of my hipster friends and so far NO ONE has picked up on the Jamie Reid thing--I thought it was incredibly obvious.   2004-03-16 08:55:39
art chantrySend art chantry a message :   i love humorous riffs on old graphic design like this. jamie ried would be proud (but he'd probably kick yer ass just for fun).   2004-03-16 07:55:02
