just remembered the one about how david and him were splicing magnetic tape in sections of one inch and it wasn't working right because they couldnt agree on the length of an inch.
they tested each other and figured out that because one of em closed one eye to make the measurements and one left both eyes open that there was a difference in the lengths.
they like spliced tape 12 hours a day for about 3 months! just for one song/project!
sorry - ill shut up now. i just like john cage.
David Tudor. Thats the name of the guy making all the prepared piano insanity in the background. That record is like a comedy record. I love it. I have to get that back from Nick Butcher today.
i love indeterminacy. i didnt realize each story was two minutes at first - just thought he was changing pace to fuck with you and give the piece some changing moods. some great stories in there. i like to listen to that when i have a long drive. it REALLY makes time pass fast.
i dig the story when he's in the anachoic (sp) chamber that is supposed to be completely silent and he doesnt know why he hears two sounds - one high, one low and they turn out to be like his blood in circulation.
that's fuckin whack yo.
sometimes when Im working Ill put on that double CD "indeterminacy", where he reads all of those stories and either talks really fast or quite slow to fit the length of time allowed, all the while a piano is being beaten up in the background. Goodness.
