art chantrySend art chantry a message :   i was in the fourth grade when kennedy was assassinated. a week after the killing, a teacher in the school mimeographed off a run of 8 1/2x11 "posters" of a portrait he did of jfk created this way (with his typewriter). underneath it was the "ask not..." line form his inaugural speech. i still have it. i've always wanted to make a poster out of it, but now i guess i can throw it away.   2004-02-02 09:18:23

seripopSend seripop a message :   dan: we had an example of this done in an old comercial art instruction book studied it, figured out what characters they used for what type of shading (8 is dark, 1 is light , 7, 4 , 3 , 6 are all halfway with empasis on diffrent areas) than covered the photo in tracing paper and typed over it it took 5-6 shots to get it right (write?)   2004-02-01 12:49:37
dspringSend dspring a message :   great execution and knowing that is a literary/musical event is so perfect.
Curious as to how you did it? did you break the picture down into blocks of grey values and figure out what number/letter best represented that value???
