"Certainly don't be down about it. I think it's a funny poster. And wether or not you *meant* for the type to be cheezy, I think that with the silly 80's vibe from the palm trees (and tiger for some reason?) it seems to work. Sure the arrangement of items could be better, but overall, I like."
yes, I did want it to be a little cheezy. I'm not taking it that seriously...I only wish I could have got a good picture of a Delorian or Miami vice in there.
Aside from reading up on text instruction, you might try printing out your fonts ( after you have your basic design layed out ) and then tracing 'em in ink with your own loose style. Rescan the inked text, lay it back in and you can stumble on some happy accidents.

not too bad for a first try but i don't like it.
the rendering on the tiger and tress is all weird and cold looking.
too digitally.
and yeah the type is no good, nor is the type placement esp. on the top half.
the color combo isn't really working either.
i don't know, i've seen way worse but this just isn't working.
maybe you should look through poster and design books to learn about layout? for typography inspiration and instruction i sugest designing with type and typo.
def. better than my first poster.
yea, I saw some of the same issues....it just basically came down to me not having enough skill or experience to fix them. Thanks for the suggestions though...
the image is pretty cool. i don't dig the font, pretty overused. also, the bottom of the trees could have extended into the info for some cohesion. otherwise, good work. be the ball...
