that library is the shit. I spent a whole day in their special 'print room'..they had like the craziest real shit..it was like mindbending.
All that oil money put to good use for a change.
He actually meant doing it on another night...other than the Surfers nite..I think...Friday? Sunday?
Dude sounded like he just needed a BREAK.
Frank, the library in Houston is one of the best in the country, dude. Theyve got copies of the original Masoretic Texts on carbon slides...all you gotta do is ask, baby.
Frank...think about comin down here. Me and Charlie may be planning something one of these days...we may wanna snag Lindsey on it, too...
You can check out Charlies wife up close...and then be taken for REAL barbq, jokah...Earl Thomas in Acres Homes...
Houston...I dont know about that...I went there once and like got crabs.
They got a nice library tho...they let me look at all these cool Von Stuck prints. had to wear gloves.
Cool. BLT don't realize you don't just hop in a car in Texas and zip to the next city. Well unless yer Jason that nut drives back and forth all the time. We have SPACE down here. I wonder if BLT is still wanting to go to the Surfers Show that night? Either way we'll figure it out easy...
Hey Geoff, I talked to Brian BLT Taylor this evening and he said that maybe when he hits Austin next week you all could drive down here for a day...maybe like Saturday? We'll hang out...hit a good spot, eat, come back here to the crib and chill.
Think about it, foo.
See Jermaine if you didn't live in H town we could. i can throw down some mean ass grub. I'm a regular gourmet. For Peterbelly our writers used to get together with a big pile of 45s and I'd whip up a big dinner and we'd all eat and review 45s. The column was called platters du jour. You should cruise up with Jason sometime. I have about 3000+ LPS 45s and CDs we could talk shit for days and get fat. Gots a swank pad with guest room and everything. Jason can't stay here though.
Best rap lyricist at the time for me was Chuck. But, as Ive gotten older, Ive realized that Rakim is the man. That album PAID IN FULL...there aint a weak song on there...
But Chuck would throw down these lyrics, dude...
Nevertheless they could not understand that Im a black man
and I can never be a 'veteran'...
On the strength the situations unreal
I got a raw deal
Now Im looking for the steel..
Dude, I was like...'OOOOOOHH'
good good stuff. I turned a lotta white boys onto that stuff.
Nation of Millions... was THE best P.E. album...- 1988 tho.
Now, APOCALYPSE 91...came real close.
See I wish we could all get together in person on Friday nites and discuss this stuff over food and drank...I LOVE to argue music.
I also love making lists.
I love LISTS.
I was obsessed with that 'my 88' song...I remember taking that first album to a party and everybody hated it...a year later they where all experts. I loved that brief period before RAP got big it was cool.
fear was good but i thought nation of millions was better..
ohh i LOVE to argue music..
heh heh.
from the time i was 15 til l i was 19 i volunteered and hosted a show on college radio..
then djed in clubs for a few years b4 the sight of drunk idiots made me wanna kill em.
now i stay how with my 1000+ lps and and 100+ music bios and feel smug.
Yeah yeah but did you break the same girl's foot? what's with not finishing the story? couple a jerks. Jason I 'bout got the Sonic Youth to a stopping point. Jpeg will be hard to see but once it's printed it will be plenty veiwable. 8.5 x 32. that's whay I hain't snet you any mail tonight...
1990...I admit I was into the SUB POP stuff...aside from that, Surfers, Pussy Galore, Sonic Youth, Public Enemy, X-Clan, etc.
Geto Boys, huh? Forget all that NO LIMIT and CASH MONEY stuff...GETO BOYZ...thats the REAL south stuff..Royal Flush records...HOUSTON!
I gots that first SG 45 on Sub Pop and I pull iy out now and again and it's plenty HEAVY and plenty good. And there's no way to overrate "Bleach" that album is a motherfucker. So raw and powerful. Damn! Mudhoney do rock though but their last truly good record was "every good boy deserves fudge" and don't forget Seaweed. Pretty much all great albums and one of the best live bands ever...
skinny puppy were on my nah list..
throbbing gristle and the swans however..
mostly at that time though, i listened to older stuff like thin lizzy , the stooges, the 5 and joy division cuz i hated all the trendy stuff comming out that all the retarded kids my own age drooled over.
my friends were 20 something welfare cases with no skills.
in 1990 I was sorta heavily into weird 'damaged' shit out of NYC like Live Skull and so forth...I never really got into the 'grunge' thing...like we had done that back in 84-85 sort of...I was also kinda into shit like Ghetto Boys and so forth around 1990....
I thought they were pretty cool, but never bought their stuff. I will someday...I feel kinda nostalgic. I really dug hearing "My Wave" and "Rusty Cage" on the radio.
Yep...the Surfers rocked it, too. SERI, I always figgered you for a Skinny Puppy gal around 1990.
I cut my hand real bad on a broken bottle at a Surfers show in 1990...and the girl I was with had her foot broken when some idiot jumped on it.
man i was buying records in 90 and i thought they were whatever even then.
and i was only 13 and had enuff sense to say fuck you to sg and stick with sy and the buttholes.
I had just gotten photoshop..and yes SG was like impossible to do anything 'nailed down' for cause like their IMAGE was Cornell's torso...and the deal was NO Cornell in the poster so I opted for a big BOOM.
And me...Im the shameless 'coat tailer'...no real talent of my own. Im just gonna grab hold tight of Frankie's shirt tails and ride my way to the Promised Land...
They grow pork chop trees there...and dine on sausage pie...
and then I blew every PENNY putting out a bunch of obscure punk 7" singles with like real elaborate packaging and colored vinyl .
silly me. I should have bought a Mercedes instead.
and,,,to rub it in...Sg and Management LOVED this poster...they paid me extra for merch rights and then they paid me even MORE money to like direct a huge budget video for them.
so yes, this piece of crap went quite a long ways in destroying everything clean and pure in rock and roll.
First thing I did Art was make sure I didn't get stuck with that deadly 'regional' tag.
Im worldwide baby, worldwide.
aint it a bitch....all that success and no talent.
ha!
ya see, nobody would hire any seattle designers to do big shows like this, they'd hire big famous guys like frank. and then he'd do a piece of junk like this (sorry frank). go figger.
