DWITTSend DWITT a message :   Thanks to the trusty randomizer I found this one. I'm glad that I'm doing exactly what you all have said to do. I'm very new at this, but eager to learn, and i think I have a good grasp of what makes a good poster. I'm having a blast meeting more musicians, and doing work for them. I'm also hooked on the cartoons. Click on,   2002-10-12 21:33:24

kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   this is just an experiment. hehe, havent even started the actual drawing yet. also, i have a feeling a lot of what i normally do will come through on this. the funny thing is, this poster is not going to match the band at all ... fun.   2002-07-20 20:58:16
kozikSend kozik a message :   be careful..once you start to cartoon its hard to stop.   2002-07-20 20:54:02

kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   okay, so ive finished the main type for my first cartoonish poster ...   2002-07-20 20:46:35
Platinum RichSend Platinum Rich a message :   this site and the people on it have kicked my ass into gear. who'd have thought. now i'm finally doing stuff. clay is my hero.   2002-07-20 20:44:46
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   yeah totally raph, ive learned a ton here in the last, what has it been, 4 months ... a LOT more than the 3 years of art school that i attended. first, i learned you dont need to meet design snob standards to really make it. you dont have to be uptight and pretensious to be a good artist. you dont need to be secretive and mysterious. everyone here does what they do because they love it, and some of them are actually able to do it for a living, and many without formal education. i cant imagine what some of these illustrators/cartoonists could do with like a solid grounding in lettering/typography. ugh ... yeah, this place rocks.   2002-07-20 20:43:53
kozikSend kozik a message :   there ya go!   2002-07-20 20:40:27
Bradley W. ZimmermanSend Bradley W. Zimmerman a message :   exactly. that's why i sit on here all day - as i've said many times, i've learned more since april on here than i did in 4 years of art school.
of course, i still feel like a hack... for the moment... ;-)
  2002-07-20 20:39:33
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   yeah i hear ya, and whether you know it or not, im doing everything that i can to get my name out there right now. i have had a connection with the music scene for years, and have been involved on practically every level ... promotion, musician, now gig poster artist. this isnt the only thing i do either, i do a lot of other probono type of work for local charities, etc. also do ad work for indie record labels, worked for several publications back home, promo work for museums, art galleries ... yep, i really AM a graphic designer. i hang out here so much because this is where the FUN part of my chosen career is. i love doing this stuff. you can really do ANYTHING (if you do it well).   2002-07-20 20:39:10
kozikSend kozik a message :   you have like your most important tool right here-this website, Man, we could only DREAM about a hookup like this in 1980. YOU are wgere I was in 1980 now...just starting,...except you have this AMAZING TOOL.
use it well.
  2002-07-20 20:36:38
kozikSend kozik a message :   you have to network...eat a bunch of shit along the way( I sure aye my share) but if you KEEP AT IT you will succeed.
Dude, ask Jermaine..IMPOSSIBLE odds..a black dude in texas...and he is doing it and doing it great. He changed the odds, see?
  2002-07-20 20:34:56
kozikSend kozik a message :   maybe not..current example...A friend of mine started a amgazine. i do free illustrations for her. In return we get a cover story about Flatstock. The next issue has a feature on 3rd Eye Blind. I asked about them and did an illustration(a free one) for the article. The guy in the band loved it and now they are going to PAT ME for it to be used on shirts and then 'want to do a video?'
Thats how it works.
  2002-07-20 20:32:55
kozikSend kozik a message :   Ok...I'll shut my fat trap now.   2002-07-20 20:30:19
kozikSend kozik a message :   also..youo make your own opportunities...i was into a music scene so I like asked if I could do shit...same thing everywhere else..i collected toys for years, got to know the players and talked myself into like a major new situation.
no one will walk up to you and hand it over. YOU have to make it happen.
Thats the big 'secret' they donmt teachyou in school.
Like the Seripop people..they will go far goes they just DECIDED to.
  2002-07-20 20:27:50
kozikSend kozik a message :   well...all i can say is that all those free posters i did in the 80's turned into like a major design career on 3 continents.
thats why doin shit for free rocks. cause its free advertising...for you.
  2002-07-20 20:25:03
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   i wanna do levi's shit. actually, i wanna do diesel shit, but ...
and i would rock at interior design/evironmental design ... just havent had an opportunity to do that yet.
  2002-07-20 20:22:44
kozikSend kozik a message :   Uncle Charlie and Jermaine do the same thing. Charlie did like Fruitopia machines...
we both do shit for Levi's on an ongoing basis. We are both doing Levi's shit right.
  2002-07-20 20:20:57
kozikSend kozik a message :   I also write for biker magazines a little. I design motorcycle shit too...
like I'll do anything.
Interior design, store design, neon design...landscaping...murals...
done all of that....
  2002-07-20 20:19:49
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   mmmm yoohoo! drink of champions!   2002-07-20 20:19:35
kozikSend kozik a message :   and for the label..I did like hundreds of ads, one sheets, packaging, posters, promo shit, t-shirts....
I probably have done like 400 t-shirt designs from like restauarants to sports stuff...you name it. I just did a bunch of crap for YooHoo.....Altiods.....Coors.... Camel....etc.
  2002-07-20 20:18:07
kozikSend kozik a message :   not really...for example..I did all the Slim Jim packaging for like the last 3 years. Youve walked by that a million times. Same for Gatorade, Nike etc.
my 'design' stuff is totally different.
especially the Japanese stuff.
They hire you for your 'vibe' but it usually ends being invisible.
which is fine.
I have also done like 300 cd and album covers.
I done a lot of shit.
  2002-07-20 20:16:17
kozikSend kozik a message :   It's been talked about before..the 'Inferno' thing had all of that plus more...only problem is theres like no way to sell it once it's done.
Wild Brain spent like nearly a million dollars on that and it dissapeared as soon as their website went belly up. They showed it at a few festivals..theres like NO market for animation.
It takes a lot of time and a lot of money.
Also, the whole Television, video and film industry is HARSH and I like don't have the temperment for it. it's like 90% crap politics and 10% actual stuff getting done. You get paid pretty good, but I didnt need the aggracation. It's just too ephemeral. I had a video game in development for EVER and one day the person pushing it quit and that was that project cancelled. I'm to old to deal with the energy needed in those fields.
I got my toy deal anyway, so I can sort get right to the cool part of that realm-the merch.
I suppose if Disney should up with a big check i'd do it, but they wont so i don't care really.
  2002-07-20 20:13:05
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   see, im probably the only one here that wasnt really familiar with your stuff until coming to this site. i live a sheltered life ...   2002-07-20 20:11:01
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   would i recognize any of that other stuff that you mentioned? does it resemble the stuff that you do here?   2002-07-20 20:09:05
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   i would be interested in an original kozik animated series. im sure youve considered it before. hitler bunnies, bondage bunnies ... im sure the cartoon network would pick it up right away!! hell, they ran ren and stimpy.   2002-07-20 20:08:07
kozikSend kozik a message :   like I said...the poster work you see is like maybe 20% of the shit I've done over the years.
its like a hobby. That other shit is like a job.
  2002-07-20 19:52:54
kozikSend kozik a message :   fuck..memories dim...a buch of wierd Silicone graphics type shit to back in the day.....like effects stuff for videos and such. I think we used a FLAME system too?...it was like boring and took forever.   2002-07-20 19:50:06
kozikSend kozik a message :   o yeah..also last year i did a bunch of flash spots for a beer company for their website.
also helped on like a million student films for friends a Loooong time ago.
right now i do animations for cell phones for ITT in japan. like these little animation/avatar deals.
I like design the crap and other people do the actual animation. I just like point at shit.
  2002-07-20 19:47:11
kozikSend kozik a message :   yes. i did 20 5 and 10 second spots for Cartoon network ...a bunch of crap for Nike for europe, and a 36 minute all-flash 12 episode series for the web based on dante's inferno.
I have also directed several 35mm film videos and art directed a bunch of movie crap as well.
good money-but the industry people REALLY are hard to deal with so I sort of blew it off. Altho I might do a video this winter for #rd Eye Blind...Oh I edited some movies for the Butthole Surfers a long time ago..16mm stuff.
  2002-07-20 19:42:28
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   have you ever done anything animated?   2002-07-20 19:39:36
kozikSend kozik a message :   cartooning is about having fun with lines and shapes.
it is a pain but when it comes out nice it's very satisfying.
  2002-07-20 19:25:41
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   i also think that i want to experiment on a poster doing something cartoonish. its TOTALLY something that i would never do ... might be fun to see what happens.   2002-07-20 19:24:41
kozikSend kozik a message :   'no budget I think makes for better work. I kinda went overboard for a few years.
it was fun tho.
  2002-07-20 19:24:00
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   okay, i get it now. thats pretty fucking crazy. it would be fun to just be able to go nuts with color, but i guess being on a "no budget" is fun too ... making things work with two colors and all. i wanna try doing something that 4-color process screenprinted.   2002-07-20 19:23:09
kozikSend kozik a message :   crazy to think about now.I've cut my output by 80 percent. Funny thing is I make more money now. I lost money on the shop almost every year.   2002-07-20 19:23:08
kozikSend kozik a message :   we did about 1300 editions of posters, prints, album sleeves and other shit in those 10 years.   2002-07-20 19:21:43
kozikSend kozik a message :   see..I had my own printshop with like an automatic press and 2 full time employees. so I was like no limits. I sht it all down last year when I 'retired'. I had the shop for 10 years.   2002-07-20 19:19:17
kozikSend kozik a message :   this is the offsett version. its like 13x19
the silkscreens was 22 x 33 or so and thew colors where the same just no gradients.
  2002-07-20 19:17:32
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   so the text with the gradial fill, is that offset?   2002-07-20 19:16:32
kozikSend kozik a message :   but the average was like 10-12 colors.   2002-07-20 19:16:02
kozikSend kozik a message :   I have done some 22-24 color gig posters before.
art prints in the 30's of colors.
lotta fucking amberlith cutting.
  2002-07-20 19:15:14
kozikSend kozik a message :   these where screened and offset.
14 colors on the screened one i think.
  2002-07-20 19:13:17
kevin jonesSend kevin jones a message :   alright dude, i need to ask. how many colors are there on this? is it screenprinted? i wouldnt even start to do something this detailed for a screened poster.   2002-07-20 19:04:37
TBMSend TBM a message :   you sick bastard...bunnies are sacred animals that deserve respect and admiration...and besides, with those teeth, he could definately handle a larger ball-cock   2002-07-20 13:18:32
kozikSend kozik a message :   I had forgotten this,,heh,,I should do a painting of that lil gagged bunny   2002-07-20 12:32:25
