concerning the layout; it was cut and paste and then scanned.
the image was used for shock value, meant to be one of those "you can't help but look" type of posters... if I had known this was from an actual crime, i might have not used it.
a few boring points:
perkins, i understand what you are saying, completely. i never said this was crap and i actually don't think that it is (bad type and layout notwithstanding.) so, i don't think we disagree. something goes up in public, folks get to react to it. my reaction is that i really don't like it because it looks like she is amazingly unhappy to say the least.
also, i gotta say, comparing what could be a true crime photo to consentual actions between adults kind bugs me. i have no problem with BDSM stuff as long as everyone is consenting, in fact it's good clean fun for some folks. linking torture and death (if this is a true crime photo) to that scene just seems unfair to me.
all that didactic crap aside, the jokes regarding the horror of this layout have been kinda funny.
"I still think it's best not to draw a line at all."
Everyone's got their boundaries, both known and undiscovered. Racist shit pushes my buttons. I don't like this shit either.
Those Precious Moments-styled Porn posters crossed a line with Mister Reusch, and now, sadly, he doesn't come here anymore.
Different strokes n' all that.
Some people are into being treated this way for sexual gratification. Men and women. I think clearly these people have some issues that need to be adressed, but many people partake in extreme bondage all over the world. I have a friend who does this shit with his girlfried ( who is a porn star). It's disturbing for sure.
Me, I never understood it and it doesn't really titalate me ( no pun intended) but it's a great big world full of all kinds of people who are into all kinds of strange shit.
I think this crosses a line...if you think no line should be crossed, do images of child rape offend you? Is that a line that shouldn't be crossed? This poster is stupid, it looks pretty real. Even if it's fake, it's still dumb, unimaginative and boring. spend some time with real-life crime victims and you won't think this stuff is funny or cute anymore.
I understand exactly why this is offensive and disturbing. From a design standpoint, it's certainly no masterpiece either...but if you're saying that it's crap simply because of the image that was chosen, I'll have to disagree.
Brings up an interesting question: Where does one draw the line? Even though this isn't my cup of tea, I still think it's best not to draw a line at all.
oh come on yourself. just cause using this particular and pretty awful imagery happens to shock and actually really hardcore disturb me doesn't mean i'm anti-shock value across the board.
especially if it's a photo from an actual sex crime? fuck that.
that's my opinion, that's all.
i've been seeing this kind of crap everywhere lately - saw wolf creek and hostel in one night a few days ago and i can't get rid of the sick feeling - this poster doesn't help and kind of makes me want to vomit right now.
Man, this type of shit ain't right. Throwing girls in a noose, raping them, them killing them...that is frightening. If this really happened...think about what this woman went through. The reality of these crimes keeps me from sleeping at night.
What if this was your sister or your mother?
This is waaaay different from girls posing for hod rod pics.
This is torture and murder.
Who wouldn't voluntteer to hunt down the sonofabitch who would do this to anybody?
That said...I'm sure that this was posed by some sick people...I'll bet they had some coffee and donuts afterward.
I've seen this photo in a book about crime, if memory serves me correctly this girl was actually killed. The killer was this guy who put out personal ads to photograph models, when the models showed up he took some photos tied them up, raped them and murdered them.
