that's a long ugly story involving 9-year lawsuits and vicious corporate assholes. all the good guys lose.
i'll fill you in someday in private. let's just say that csa (charles spencer anderson) is actually heroic in his protecting of our rights as artists - and nobody knows it.

kjeep in mind the historical context here. prior to these posters, NOBODY had gone for this look before (well, at least since the industrial 40's). it was actually pretty radical back then. nowadays the style has been poiunded into to ground by other people enjoying the style - old navy even self-conciously copped it (it came out in a trial that they attempted to make this very look their corporate look. they even held up some of my work). the corporate guys pounded it to death over the following ten years.
so, it may be boring as fuck, now, but 10-15 years ago, it was a real eye-opener.
this poster was the follow up to my "tool" poster that wigged out so many people (remember that was back around 1991. nobody contemporaries had really done this look before). each event had a different and separate poster. in each one you can see me figuring out a little bit more on how these old dudes thought back then. eventually, over the next five years, their primitive american style became part of my vocabulary.
as a result, this series is one of my all-time favorite efforts. fond memories and all.
