i was trying to "fake jack kirby" with this. actually, i used to be able to draw rather nicely (don't forget i was an art student with many hours of classes under my belt). but this is still not a very good drawing, for my tastes. i don't think i've really sat down and drawn anything in almost 20 years. and yet, i became a well-known graphic designer. how can that be? i approach design as an assemblage medium, not a drawing medium. we assemble posters with a printing press, not draw then by hand. at least that's how i've figgered things.

this is the first commissioned poster i ever did. 1975. paid $75. terrible. client loved it. i thought you'd all get a giggle to see that i started out trying to draw everything just like you guys.
