I think that depends on your idea of finished. You want to see solid inked lines? Vectorized smoothness? To me this looks complete. There's so much motion, and leaving parts incomplete makes it unique and changes the focus. Hess & hand lettering looks good to me.
Throwdown will be one of the biggest metal/hardcore bands for the next couple of years. The new stuff absolutly batters. This poster..... fucking kills!
Not a huge Hess fan... had to look at his stuff for years- complete overload. But, this looks like a killer show. Surprised Ringworm isn't on the bill as well.
I always like Hess's stuff when he hand renders the text. They work really well. His Upper Crust and Stretch Armstrong posters are some of my favorites of his.
Hess is brilliant, seriously. He is the master at combining t-square architectural lettering with dynamite anatomical sketches. This former varsity hurdler is on his way to the mosh pit with a fresh hand stamp that says that he's old enough to drink. This is the draftsman's dream of a rock n roll poster. I remember in my high school, the drafting classroom was right next door to the art classroom which right next door to the music classroom. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would see the three combined so harmoniously on one sheet of paper. I like it and truly repect it because it is original, unique and grabbed my attention to determine what it is all about. Success!
