i hate this guy! this is absolutely beautiful. I have the other High On Fire poster that friggin glows in the dark and in my humble opinion is the perfect poster. Now this. I'm gonna track one of these down.
"It's not that you have a different opinion, it's how you express it. Like other people are fools for liking things such as skeletons and the like. You come off as very condescending. I'm not a big fan of it. "
-well. . .you might be right, I'll think about it
It's not that you have a different opinion, it's how you express it. Like other people are fools for liking things such as skeletons and the like. You come off as very condescending. I'm not a big fan of it.
I have no idea why your comments are making me so furious. I rarely get this pissed about other peoples opinions. I'm like, really bummed right now.
and obviously it does have some merit judging by all the positive comments its gotten, I realize this. . .should I just shut up because I have an opposite view. . .
I thought Grezca's comment comparing this to Kollowitz was interesting; an aspect I had not considered before and may not have ever considered if I had not commented
naw man...besides the clown with the sandwich board at the Conoco on 51st. and the posters on the drag its pretty "private". the crazy thing is he has it all cloaked in black velvet and even if there isn't a line he still makes you wait for like twenty minutes while he "goes around back...to check the pipes"...frustrating.
You have made other comments before this that were presumptuous and rude as well. You might not want to come off as a dick yet you do. Regularly.
This poster hits the mark in evey possible way. You don't like it because it has a "skeleton" on it. Maybe, just maybe this poster warrents a skeleton? Do you know anything about the band? If you did you would know that this fits them to a perfect T. It's original in it's design and execution and is excellent in about a jillion other ways.
This goes right along with you pressuming to tell Mr Tidwll he wastes his talent painting monsters in Hotrods.
I like everything about it, the skeleton looks like a withering man on a tombstone. I love the "looseness" of the whole deal, I think I like it so much because I KNOW I could never do anything the "free" and that makes me loike it even more. Easily POTW, it's one of my all time favorites, but like everything in life it's all opinion.
Well, honestly , this stuff is so subjective- I think its a really strong image, esp judging it from a jpg. I like the composition, solid and inventive, this sort of hulking shape with these long fingers. Works for me. Again, its all preference. Some people hate Jackson Pollock, others like me love 'em.
I think what I really like about both of them are the expressive quality of the drawings. Im a sucker for German Expressionism and Jay's HOF posters strike me as a contemporary updating of some of those old etchings and drawings. This one is so creepy yet gentle...Like a Kathe Köllitz compostion. I think its a pretty creative use of the skeleton with the exaggerated hand bones. To each his own, of course.
I don't really like this all that much, nor the other HOF poster that everyone goes ga-ga over. . .I don't know, another skeleton. . z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z....although I do think some of Jay's other posters are great, like that Whirlwind Heat poster or this one
I guess I just don't get the hype on this
I keep finding new favorite parts of this poster: the rib cage, then the big feet, then the little wings, then the headstone, then the funny hat, then the flames, then the flower... then the colors, then the texture... i sure do want to see this one on the actual paper. i hope the paper's fat and toothy.
So I just checked out the rest of Jay's posters and it was really great to see the evolution and maturation of style and skill since his first posters till now. Nice work Jay, I hope I'm that good by my fourth page of posters.
okay, I've decided that enough flattery has gone on here in the last 30 minutes to ensure the world that this is indeed a great poster for a great band.
I'm gonna start talking shit about it right now unless Jay sends me one of these. Overnight express mail.
The only comment I have on this is that maybe if the yellow were a darker color like red or orange or it was printed on black paper it might feel more " dark" HOF are pretty dark. I really should just keep my trap shut though. This is insanely good as it stands.
