"Hip-hop" is the culture (used in the wrong context in today's media). "Rap" is just one element of the hip-hop culture. BTW, great poster. |

leia-cool story. if murs picked the image, then it doesn' get more 'authentic' than that. i gues thinking about it, it's actually very cool that it doesn't feel like what we all expect for a rap show. |

In light of recent events, one of the funnier things you'll see is when Chuck D tried to interview Strom Thurmond before an aide spirited ole Strommy away. |

Yeah, hip-hop does not equal rap to me. It's almost an old-school/new-school distinction in my untrained eyes. Like, despite being wildly popular and more slickly produced, I think Will Smith is still a rapper. It's all in the phrasings. Brian Fellows? Well, he's hip-hop.

Public Enemy is the bomb, & I never considered them hip hop. I always thought hiphop was shit like TLC & Destiny's Child. Shows you how much I know...or care. |

Of course I don't think your a racist. That story pretty much clears up the issue. If the actual artist picked the image then it definetly fits. |

The real story:
This was an after-the-fact poster. MURS came to Kilby COurt last year with Atmosphere and I did a poster for that show, but this one I found out about too late. When Murs got to town, he was all, "this tour has been rough, and I was excited to get here and see my poster!" oops, no poster. he was bummed, so I told him that I'd still do one and he could pick the drawing. THIS IS WHAT HE PICKED.
Murs is super cool, and I hope you all don't think I'm some sort of racist... |

I dont know what to label anything anymore. All I know is I made a great comp last night that alternates Wierdos tunes with a bunch of stuff including "wicked" by Ice Cube. Röks.
Like this poster Röks.
Nice batch as usual leia.
I wonder if theres a little andy warhol-like factory at leias house. I blink and there are 10 new great posters. |

I think Leia just wanted to draw a monkey. I mean, look how cute he is! He's drinking milk.
I remember an old comic book ad trying to recruit kids to sell photo enlargements door to door. The prize was a real live monkey! I wish I had been alive in the 50's! Selling products for payment in live monkeys. I love America. I hate rap though. |

I think I would not put a monkey on a poster for African American rappers, but thats just me. I'm a white man I would get pegged as a racist in like 2 seconds flat.
Public Enemy are not (in my opinion) Hip Hop, they are rap. Hip Hop is more R&B influenced correct? Like, T.L.C. are Hip Hop right? like you wouldn't call NWA Hip Hop would you? P.E. are definetly legends though. One of my all time favorites. Same with NWA and Ice T. I like pretty much most "rap" music up till Dre's The Cronic. After that it seems like it got too watered down. Not all of it, but most of it anyway. Still get into the West Coast Gangsta Rap. |
