Great randomized poster,... reading through the comments makes me laugh, especially since the release of Dero Toys & Smokin' Labbits,... speaking of, where do I get my inflatable love Dero, with lifelike orifices?
I see what you mean Jermaine, but I feel the need to also say that my opinion should not be seen as an endorsement, or condemnation of anyone else's remarks (as if I would have that authority). I get in a lot of trouble here, and I respect both opposing views in this case, as well as the artists behind them.
"I'm a sucker for the returning character shtick, but I have no credibility, so take it for what it's worth. "
Brendan, you aint alone. Most people dig it, relatively speaking...
Hence:
soap operas
comic books
sitcoms
book series
movie sequels
the rolling stones
etc, etc.
Do the same thing in a poster, tho...and it 'doesnt make sense'.
Why?
Because it goes against some unspoken rules or 'tradition'...or against some theoretical idea of "WHY" posters get made and 'what for'...
Well, shoot me...I dont comply.
I want that wind-up rabbit toy someone posted on here the other day. Whose was that? They got it out of their grandmas garage or something.
eggs and sausage sound good right now.
I'm a sucker for the returning character shtick, but I have no credibility, so take it for what it's worth.
As for the painting, I like it when an artist does different things well. Some days I prefer the paintings, but mostly the drawn stuff appeals to me -- but that's 'cause I'm too lazy to interpret abstract stuff.
i prefer Jermaine in the kitchen, naked, pregnant barefoot and scrambling some eggs and sausage, extra spicy.
I personally enjoy looking at cartoon rabbits. a lot.
Jermaine always tells me that since he's so big and I'm so small that I don't need to get on my knees.
Seeing as how you're smaller than me Chloe you might need a footstool.
Whatver Seri...cut the 'knees' crap. I've gone out of my way to be ultra-nice to you...but I don't dig your 'way' sometimes...
Yea, Im being a jerk...
sue ME.
i just don't get em
i really don't like or understand the whole returning charecter thing.
i guess i'm in the minority.
should i apologize for my taste?
And that dollar sign is for the Seripop's of the world. To you from me.
Dale Abernause at Rocky Mountain Art wants to make this the 3rd painting of mine he buys.
So there are some foolish, pathetic people out there that buy this horrendous artwork.
Pity us.
Sorry Witt, I wasnt overlooking you.
Yea, this was painted in a very hot burnt sienna and a cerulean blue...with white and hints of crimson flecked all over it. Then I screwed with color levels on it in the MAC. I agonized over how to release the final version...so the ones that actually went to Verizon to promote the show reflected the actual painting, while this one shows the 'doctored' one. This will be the 'sale' copy, if I make it available for sale. I hadn't intended to originally, but Ive gotten many requests.
Hmmm CHloe...cant understand my 'paintings as posters'. WHat an interesting general statement to make.
Funny tho...in your comment on this poster:
http://www.gigposters.com/posters.php?poster=7601
You seemed complimentary. Like a wave of the sea...you flow to and fro with...'the wind'.
Chloe, honey...listen closely:
YAWN.
Jermaine, lemme axe you again...
Was this painted as an orange bear, and yellow sky with black outlines and then negativized through a machine?
It reminds me of my SOZ negative poster...

I would prefer to hear Chloes reason from Chloe. I bet it's different than Tom's reason, which is a valid reason. Not to imply Chloes wont be valid. It will be because it's her opinion. I am just truely interested in hearing well thought out ideas about what people like and dislike. I learn from it. It's certainly better than "This Sucks"
I am sure you can. Its just your comment was, I dont like it.
anywho. I still think standard hit on what she was stating...maybe a bit more eloquently and focused...but generally the same.
I didn't get that one poster. Chloes' statment was about a whole style of Jermaines work. I'm interested in why she doesn't get that avenue for expression in posters. Just curious not trying to make waves. Not directed at you Tom.
Jason,I'd be happy to explaine why I don't get your blue splotchy poster.
i think standard answered seripop's question.
what i like the most is that jermaine is 'playing'...which everyone should do. bears and bunnies aren't my taste either though...but I would think a 14 yr old kid would dig this.
Drama is the only thing that keeps this place interesting, man.
No, this is a perfectly fine poster. Just one of those personal taste things. I've seen tons of paintings like this while at art school - this is just presented as a poster and therefore considered unique.
The whole "schtick" approach (bears, bunnies, etc) I think is a perfectly acceptable thing, I'm just not crazy about it. I see it as a personal mark by the artist to lend a little cohesiveness to his/her body of work - half in-joke, half signature. Just doesn't jibe with what I like to see in rock poster art, which is imagery tailored to the band in some way, not to the artist's portfolio.
this is really one of the best posters jermaine has EVER done... painting or drawing.. from all the posters he has done, this is really incredible..
tom just likes drama..
Don't laugh Richie, I work with TWO art & design coordinators who are fucking COLOR BLIND, no shit, they hide it. What are the chances out of a pool of around 4 or 5 people 2 can't see some or all colors? And they design books for a multi-million dollar company, amazing. Probably make more than me, too.
Anyone else find it tacky that arenas and theaters are no longer named after a civic leader or local name?
This totally fits the band....
I'm a closet ZWAN fan and this has got their vibe all over it. This works so well on an emotional level and it's legible. Also beats out the Tori Amos poster you just did. :D
If this is gonna be offset...do it oversize!!!
