"let's see now...
correct me if i'm wrong here...
but 'smile' seems to think if an image is just words, that it sucks,
and if it's got a drawing on it, then it's much better?
is that correct?"
I would say YES. Image and words are much better than just a text poster about 99% of the time. But that is MY taste.
Your taste is different. And that is cool.
That's it, I know it ain't right but I can't get over it sometimes. It's a subtle thing, like someone sticking a small pin into your back. I'm just jealous I didn't have that financial freedom growing up.
i'm always surprised when i find out that my favourite rock musicians have a trust fund... but, it doesn't change my opinion of them, just makes me jealous that i didn't have the same freedoms that $ provides...
most great rockers had middle to upper class backgrounds. the children of the contented is the backbone of rebellion in american culture.
any band that could produce a record like 'groovy hate fuck' will forever hold my respect.
so, art, did nash cut this and then use the metal as a stencil? or did they just do one and then photocopy it. either way, i think that helps in the appreciation of this... personally, i think it's a huge challenge to design an all text black and white piece that has as much life as this. and to know it was torched out of metal makes me sick! :D
I have this classicism against P. Galore that could never shake, I kinda have a white trash background and many/most/all of them were rich kids. Not right, but it's there, I can't get over it. Feels like they were slumming. Always thought they were were REALLY overrated musically.
I'm saying that this poster, however it was done, advertised this particular show. Could it have been done better/differently? Of course. But regardless, this was the one that was used. It's a part of history.
I've seen flyers for shows years ago for bands like Nirvana and the Pixies that were very cheaply thrown together. Although I would have loved to design them, I would buy them because the show was incredible, and that was the official flyer promoting that show, good or bad. It's a historical record, whether it's a graphic masterpiece or not.
Rock history? Why? Did someone die that night in a band?
It is text. Call me stupid and the average joe. But its just text.
Someone please do a hand drawn poster of just text. Then we can glow over it 10 years down the pike.
OK. I am no expert. BUT that might actually be a blessing. Cause since im just a dude, I can say this sucks.
Why or how this is genuis?
Hey im no art expert. BUT im the average concert goer and poster collector. BESIDES this being old, its SUCKS. Really.
actually, that particular lettering (including that stuff that became the "pussy galore" logo) was done by nate cato (of utrge overkill) himself. he cut it all out of metal with a cutting torch. so, if he thinks he's 'cajun powerock', i guess i'll bite.
