"i just stay home, bake pies and listen to prog in my underwear"
Sounds like a nice lifestyle. William Burroughs was more "punk" than anybody and he wore a suit.
I feel for yo uChloe, I just got back from the doctor earlier because I was having these headaches that were making me almost black out and my right arm was numb and I couldn't raise it higher than my waist. I was for sure I had a tumor. Turns out I've pinched my occipital nerve somehow and it's fucking me up. I have a pile of stuff to print too. Hoping the pain pills will let me plow through it until I can take a break. Get well and be looking for some stuff in the mail.
i'm lucky it has't come to that
i just learned the hard way that if yr coughing all the time and have a fever of 102 themn maybe printing till 3am every night isn't a good idea

Bah!! Bullshit. Differnt strokes man. Whatever makes people happy they should do. If that means having a mohawk at 35 (like Paul Imagine) then who gives a shit?
still plenty of good punk bands in many different genres of punk. If 1 out of 100 kids who buy "punk" clothes at Hot Topic find their way to the real punk scene it's worth it in my opinion.
Sometimes I think people forget what it is like to be a kid. My kids are into punk and they are having fun with it. THAT is punk!
hey Chloe, I'm sorry you're not a real honest to goodness by the blood punk but I just checked with my cousins and they said you could try out next month. There will be an intensive bit of hazing and knot tying.
You still won't be a real punk but it's as close as you'll ever get.
Just think of all those pasty whitebread snot nosed turds trying so hard to be punk with their boots and plaid and safety pins and spikes and chains and elmers glue in the hair and Koolaid color and the the original punk as fuck muthafuckas was my great great great grandfather. You all suck.
Dude, you can like Pearlm jam all day. I don't really care. Good for you.
Who said P8unk Rock was tolerant? I kind of always saw it as untolerant personaly.
my wife likes Pearl Jam. I do not.
Sweet! I'm half native american so that means I'm punk by blood since the mohwk was a documented hair style of my forefathers. I am so fucking punk as fuck!
How about this one- "Pearl Jam fan" doesnt care if they are punk, metal or damn zydeco. They LIKE them.
'Weak-points' to any freak on here who tries to generalize about them ass people because of what they like. Thats SO "tolerant" and "punk rock", right?
punk is a mohawk.
and dusty everything in seatled got called "grunge " at the time.
if yr interested and haven't read it yet "loser" has a good take on the era and the bs within it
plus chantry did the design so it's a goodlooking book.
There is absolutley NOTHING metal about Pearl Jam.
Tornado, for some reason I don't beleive you are just some random person. I may be wrong. Just a feeling.
So is "punk" a style of music or a lifestyle? See its stupid to say either way. My point was the stupidness of classifying bands or people by what they like. A whole bunch of people would call "grunge" a kind of punk. Are they wrong? Who says so? Stop messing with what people are into. Dumb generalizing based on what band someone likes is stupid.
the fact is you went to say that they where doing the "punk rock thing".... and yet they really are far removed from punk, i cant even understand why they where classified as grunge, just because they came from the same town during the same time as nirvana mudhoney etc... they owe more to 70s rock and metal than they do to 70-80s punk and indie.
"punk" or "not punk". That is so boring. Its also boring to rip up other people who like something you dont. One of the un-punkest things you can do is say what 'is' and 'isnt' punk. Stop hurting your art with your mouth.
y'all shut the fuck up... discuss if this poster is well designed and discuss the type, context etc.
this punk versus pearl jam stuff is lame
i am going to get some rolo's or maybe a twix
carry on
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
i tell ya what. punk started in seattle ya know.
tell me why not!! see! im waiting... well...
cant prove it wrong.
pissants
>>All the punks I know have bad haircuts and sit around and bitch about George Bush and Globalization and have a hard time laughing at dick and fart jokes.
This is halarious, and true. I miss the mid eighties punks, before punk became a mainstream fashion. Back then most punks were not pretentious dicks.
look pearl jam is getting people huffy...
FUCK IT. pearl jam rules then!
the gayest thing are people with like really strict rules of what their lifestyle is/and how they live it.
Most of the fratboys I know are more hardcore than any of the punks I know. They're usually rowdy, stupid, racist and full of piss and vinegar...built to offend. All the punks I know have bad haircuts and sit around and bitch about George Bush and Globalization and have a hard time laughing at dick and fart jokes.
I don't even know what punk is any more. All the conversations surrounding it sound similar to Christian groups bitching which and what is the true denomination.
Hail Pearl Jam and Frat boys!!!
RULE #1: Asking what punk is is not punk.
RULE #2: Never let a non-punk know about punk.
Sorry, man. All us punks in Coolsville are laughing at your dumb sweatervest.
i do have a problem when tornado said i was acting like an adult.
thats fucked up.
my fav eddie vedder performance was when he held up the "gabba gabba hey" sign in a dress and an old man mask and danced across the stage at the ramones final concert ever.
Pearl Jam is ALWAYS asking me what I think of them I say, "Chill out, Pearl Jam, it's cool." and Pearl Jam is all like "Does Clear Channel like me or does he LIKE ME-like me? Cos if so I like him back." and I'm all like, "I gotta get to Science class, man."
I like Pearl Jam and if anyone calls me a yuppie or a fratboy, I'll put their fucking head through a window. If I happen to be wearing sandals and a Budweiser fishing hat at the time, then that's no one's business but mine.
This poster is in a style I do not appreciate and attached to a band that it should not be attached to. Taken from the point of view that it is done by a group of designers that often mimick styles from different eras, genres, etc, I think it's "okay".
i think we're all missing the big picture here: pearl jam's music is terrible.
pj is about as punk as dave matthew's band. (and has the same audience, no?)
just for the record, in no way do i think pearl jam is punk. i just want to make that clear. ok. there. tornado is punk as fuck though. real hardcase.
For a big arena rock band they continue to do things their way which is admirable. I am glad they are politcally outspoken, I am glad they against ticket monopolies, however...they alone have inspired a horde of horrible acts that miss the point, influence the weak-minded masses and drive me apeshit. Blah. Sorry. My mixed field green/roasted pepper salad gave me hella heartburn. I am miserable.
tornado whoever u are yr a sad case.
u log in as tornado to tell me off thn disapear and log in as yr real name
oh boo hoo
i don't like yr fave band
why don't u cry for me and tell me how punk they are.
why don't u adress the million other comments about them not being punk?
oh yeah cause this has nothing to do with pj and whether or not they are "punk" ithas to do with some personal prob u have with me and insit on attacking me anon.
why don't u be an adult and grow a set of testicles.
pj NEVER did "the punk rock thing"
maybe some MEMBERs of pj did green river who one could argue are "punk" (i'd say more metal myself but i digress)
pearl jame were never punk
thier first album was aor
the previous band of members, mother love bone was hair metal mixed with aor.
not a trace of punk.
now a band doesn't need to be "punk" to be good but claiming to be something yr not just looks bad.
maybe other people buy the records but at least 80% of tickets go to WHITE , MIDDLE CLASS , MALE frat boys and yuppies
at least that was the case in the mid 90's
i don't work in promotions any more but i doubt the demographic would have changed that much
Take it easy tornado. Punk band or no punk band, this poster just isn't that great. Its a cliche idea and the execution is mediocre at best. I love ames stuff. If they are going to appropriate the 'punk' look for a PJ poster...fine. But this doesn't seem thought out enough. And quit talking about seripop's period. Of course not all PJ fans are frat boys and yuppies but its a pretty funny assumption to make, for arguments sake.
Philarts most people are cool about different tastes, thats being a damn adult. Seripop needs to get over herself. Seripop I bet your partner gets so pissed he cant see straight when you post like that. All that artwork and then you bloody post. Way to limit your audience.
alot of pearl jam shows are sausage parties.
i watched some special.. and this heavy metal dude was like
"cant deny 10 is an incredible album"
i think it was that fat fuck ian robinson.
anyhoo. i dont care who likes what music. but hey, thats just me.
Seripop Pearl Jam were doing the "punk rock" thing when you were just learning what your period was. And for your information there are a hell of a lot of folks who listen to Pearl Jam and are not frat boys and yuppies. So no you dont know what the hell your talking about. Way to make yourslef look more like an idiot. You should go anon. You make your self look denser everytime you post.
oh tornado you must be soo smarter than me
don't think i've never worked for promotions companies
don't think i don't know who attends what type of shows
stop being anon. when u wanna talk shit on me pussy.
i hear ya about the clean
i dunno the whole thing of every mainstream aor band trying to apropriate punk as soom badge of authenticity pisses me off
esp a band whose audience is comprised soley of yuppies and frat boys
this is one of the weakest ames posters in my opinion for a variety of reasons :
1) it would fit a punk band which PJ is not.. they friggin sell laptop bags at their fanclub
2) if you want to do a punk style poster then at least take 15 minutes to rough up the type. It's way too clean. Type is usually one of the main strengths of any Ames poster...
blah blah blah ames blah blah blah Pearl Jam. Why the same peeps only comment on Ames and Ames only? Take a look around, there is a TON of other cool stuff here on GP.
This poster by the way, unlike most other Ames pieces, sucks.
This imagry is as far away from Pearl Jam as could ever be. If this was for a punk band or a band that was even close to being punk, I would buy it. This has image zero to do with PJ. PJ has zero to do with punk rock.
It's almost as bad as Christina Agulera (sp?) wearing a Motorhead shirt.
yeah, I get fawkin stomach aches from the self loathing I feel when looking at most Ames Brothers, this just seems average. But screw it, why should we pidgeonhole each other? There's enough clowns out there already trying to do that, so I'm all for trying something new!
I agree it's not the usual output from Ames but take away the pink or green on the other one and say it was posted by Art in these latest rounds of late 80's early 90's xerox stuff. It fits pretty good in that context. Wonky text, goofy "punk" skelleton. Pretty standard elements. If that's their reference or what they were trying to do they did a pretty good job.
Of course you have to detach Pearl Jam from the traditional diy punk context but you get my point.
