8ballSend 8ball a message :   Peace symbols...how ecclectic..perhaps if you had followed up on current events, you'd realize how the hippies failed in changing national policy and world politics...Perhaps a 'drag racer' would me more appropriate in this situation..   2003-09-16 03:04:29
art chantrySend art chantry a message :   i should. i'm a big fan of munari's work. but, for the life of me, i can't recall the poster you're referring to.
somewhere i have a book of munari's work that i picked up a couple of years ago. i'll go see if i can find the pirelli stuff.

HYNESSend HYNES a message :   I think the ones with (extra) footprints would have looked cool - kind of interactive poster viewing. Do you remember the pirelli set i'm talking about? Bruno Munari did it, 2 footsteps on a kind of maze lookin background. Its one of my favourite posters and uncannilly similar to this (though this one seems to make more sense conceptually)   2003-07-25 14:02:17
art chantrySend art chantry a message :   this thing was from about 1985. the inspiration was an ad that designer jim christie did for the rocket for a sleazy little seattle zine called city pages.
the dance step idea goes waaaay back, and i used it on the back of an lp cover i did back in 1980, so it was not new for me either.
the guy who "curated" my show at ps1 seemed to think i stole the idea from andy warhol (how ny of him). so, he "hung" these posters on a 1 foot tall elevated platform sitting on the floor - JUST LIKE A DANCE STEP CHART! (choke). i just figgered 'whatever' and let him have his fun. i warned him that people would trip over it or walk on it down on the floor (that's when he decided to put it on a pedestal just off the floor).
anyway, the gallery just informed me that (of course) somebody stomped all over the posters. DUH! it's now covered with dirty footprints. the sad part for me was that the guard on duty during the 'vandalism' (a young kid doing summer minimum pay work) got reprimanded and almost fired - like it was her fault it was hung stupid. man, we did everything but put a "walk on me" sign on it. no reason to take it out on the guard.
anyway, i digress. it was cut into threes because it cost so much to pay the guy to hang them (and you HAD to use him because he had a monopoly on all the poster space in town. it's a long story). it was just cheaper to hang it as three different little ones. it was also available to those who had the space as one big uncut version.

HYNESSend HYNES a message :   Art - love this poster set, was your inspiration from an old PIRELLI 3 poster set from the 50's?   2003-07-25 11:51:27
CousinSend Cousin a message :   Saw this last week at the P.S.1 show.
Looks good in person, but it was one of the few of Art's prints that was smaller than expected - like a little kid's footprints.
