Cerio is in my top three of completely unique artists I've had the pleasure to work with--in some way or form--over the years (either direct collaboration or indirect). The other two are Ashleigh Talbot ("MadamTalbot") and Gary Panter. Of the three, I've worked with Steve the most.
Yeah, this stuff was incredibly fun. It just gets me all misty thinking about it. I was at The Village Voice in the mid-90s when we did this. Sort of an experiment of contrasts: Steve's linework was very clean and sinuous, whereas the type block and panels were more grungy and textured and crappy and awful. Cerio and I have worked on tons of projects together (though nothing much of late, via circumstances not desire), and can riff off of each other's attitude and approach effortlessly. He's just great.
Jesse Marinoff Reyes
the reminds me of some of Cerio's old comic work, I have some of his stuff from an early Last Gasp, thanks for posting this Art. Question, are these all from your personal collection?
This was Cerio's old style, kinda children's-illustrator-on-acid, and this is one of the cleaner works, he used to be REAL loose and messy. Good one, though.
the type was done by jesse reyes. he and cerio ore old pals.
jesse's 'best kissers in the world' poster was also part of this series.
by the way, the name of this "poster zine" was called "The MOE-tivator". get it? no, the club insisted on naming it that.
